Not stolen from a campground, I have heard of more than a few that have disappeared from storage facilities. I have heard of more than one camper being broken into while in a campground.

If you hang out here on the forums, you'll hear of one being stolen maybe once or twice a year, and one or two of those incidents that I can recall happened while it was set up for camping. Most times, it'll be stolen from a dealer's lot or a storage place. It's rare enough that I wouldn't worry about it.

Most often by the owner, who misplaced his keys! Campgrounds are generally safe venues for your Airstream, safer than storage facilities, dealers' lots, or your own home.

Now if you're boondocking someplace without controlled access, that's a completely different story…

State Parks... Here in NC a couple of years ago someone systematically broke into over a dozen campers on one of the more remote loops. They broke into everything from tent campers to large expensive motor homes, anything of value that wasn't tied down disappeared. It was over a year later before they apprehended the people that apparently were responsible. Last time I checked they had not had their day in court.

Not saying it doesn't happen. Just that it's not as common as thefts perpetrated elsewhere.
