Pre- Memorial Day Week Trip

Well, it's time to explore the offerings of the southern Oregon coast. The goal of the trip is to relax, sight-see, and reconnoiter campgrounds for future longer-term stays.

On Tuesday, I will leave Portland, OR, early in the morning for a 6 hour drive south to Jedediah Smith Redwoods National Forest (5/19/09). If I like the park, I may stay another night, if not, I'll head up 101 to Humbug Mountain State Park (first come, first served), which apparently has some of the only old-growth forest on the So. Oregon coast (5/20/09). I'll drive a bit further the next day (5/21/09) and stay at Cape Blanco State Park. (Of course, I may also stay both nights (5/20 and 5/20) at either Humbug or Blanco and save some setup/takedown time, depends on which park I like. A little further up the coast, I will stay at Sunset Bay SP on 5/21. Then the next two nights are at Alder Dunes (no hookups).

A couple of other suggestions:

Harris Beach State Park in Brookings just north of the CA. Border and Four Seasons at Gold Beach.
