porcupine campfire pot
While walking the beach along lake Superior in the Porcupine Mountains, searching for a path through the poison ivy and back to camp, the white sands transition into a rocky purple shale coastline. I hopped onto a rock and it's spongy?? Hey, this is some fairly pure clay.
I dug out a chunk with a piece of driftwood, picked out the pebbles and sticks, balled it up, then handed it to Ami and challenged her to “pinch” a pot. She formed the clay pot with fingers, a sharpened stick and a beach stone.
I cushioned the pot in paper towels between the Dodge's radiator and grill to dry for a few hundred mile drive. At our next campsite under the Mackinaw Bridge, we nested the pot in beach grasses to blacken it (we learned this in San Ildefonso Pueblo), and built a formidable campfire over it. Ami kept the fire ablaze into the night with her “Mighty Fan”(translated from Japanese).
In the morning we uncovered hot coals and our souvenir from the Porcupine Mountains.
Dirt, water, and fire is all you need. Entertainment for all ages.

Oh, so there is no cooked rodent recipe?
Well, the little pot is cute. I would have never thought of making one, let alone know how to make it like you guys did.
Very interesting!
