Pocket Earth App

I purchased this app this morning, after first wondering if I needed to get a paper map of the U.S., on which I could mark by hand my route, places of interest, campsites I wanted to stay at, etc.

You can mark all of these with this app, also download maps to use offline, something I really wanted as I have experienced difficulty using Google, etc., when there is poor or no internet connection.

$2.99 at the App Store.

Anyone have any experience with it?

Thanks down loaded it and playing with it while I recover from gallbladder removal. Not a big deal. Surgeon said do anything you want from day 1. Went for a 3 mile walk with Abby and the Sheriff (Alice) yesterday morning after surgery, beat the rest of the day, but again not bad.

Thanks for the tip. Enjoy your trip.

Glad you like it, Bud, and hope you have an uneventful recovery.

You can bullet changes in route, then name the bullet as to which highway to pick up, so that then shows up when you tap on it.....if that makes any sense.

My son is having delivered to me today a windshield mounted, telescoping holder thing for the iPad mini, something I had not even thought of, but which will be very helpful.

I have been keeping it in my lap, or laying it on the floor near me .....this will be much better.

Each day I am moving, I can decide how far I want to drive and where to stay, then mark those....rather than writing it out on a post-it to refer to thru the day.

I love it.

Hmmm. iPad/iPhone only, apparently.

Maybe it will be, eventually.

Correct I have both and we have Android phones so tried those first, no go. So the I Pad gets the app and use.

I love this app....and, unless I must have GPS in a city, it is the only navigational tool I use anymore when traveling.

My most favorite feature is its real time location....wifi connection or not, it tracks your movements as you move, unlike others I have tried where the delay affects your ability to know where you actually are.

I used it in Athens, Greece, a few months ago.....like all old cities, the roads in the center laid out every which away.

For a directionally challenged person like myself, having this app track your every turn is extremely helpful.

The close-second favorite is the ability to drop a colored "bullet" wherever you like, also to create a name for it which pops up when you tap on it.

Family, friends, turns, locations of any kind, etc.....all laid out in front of you.

I like.

Maggie, I just downloaded the Pocket Earth Pro App. Now, I just have to learn how to use it. LOL! Evelyn.
