Planning my Move South

So when I move to Jacksonville NAS this summer, I thought I'd take a different route than just going down I-95. Lord knows I've driven that enough times. Here's what I'm thinking:

from:jacksonville, fl to:43.0134236,-78.1002258 to:Eagle Lake Road & Mcfarland Hi, Bar Harbor, ME 04609 (Acadia National Park) - Google Maps

Any advice on where I should stop? what I should see?

Hayley

What a climate change you are going to experience! If you can make a detour drive through the Low Country of NC and SC, between Charlotte and Savannah, it is extremely beautiful and unusual. Any coastal area also beats major highways and interstates by a long shot, in our opinion. Travel safe.

I do not know much about camping north of Georgia but it will be hot in the summer in the south. Once you get to Florida, there are great places all over the state. I'll be the first to give you a big welcome to north Florida. I assume you are navy and if so we really appreciate your service! Have a safe trip and if you need something just ask. There are a lot of helpful folks down here!

Yup, I'm Navy, and I'm being stationed at NAS Jacksonville. I was tempted to go the coastal route, but I've done that already, and I wanted to see some of the inland route. Thanks, Doug & Maggie, on the tip for the drive between Charlotte & Savannah!

From someone that has shaken the crap out of their trailer on I-95 through South Carolina, here's (I hope) an alternate:from:jacksonville, fl to:33.224903,-81.183472 to:TN-93 N to:43.0134236,-78.1002258 to:Eagle Lake Road & Mcfarland Hi, Bar Harbor, ME 04609 (Acadia National Park) - Google Maps

Give yourself a few days to do the Low Country, if you are able---beautiful, moss-hung, oak-alley-shaded roads, interesting small towns, beautiful old homes, great Gullah cooking. Edisto and Hunting Island state parks are both coastal in that area.

I love driving I-81 through Virginia - it seems like it is downhill both ways!

Godspeed,
Trent
