Planning a 4 day away from DFW,Texas area

I live in Arlington, Texas and my wife and I decided to leave the kids and our Boxer Zues, for a little "us" time. Around mid- Novenber. We are looking for something less than 10 hours away from the MESSoplex.

I stumbled upon Sugarite Canyon State Park in New Mexico. We want to stay somewhere high up in the mountains.Views are aplus, kinda flat around here. We prefer state parks and not RV parks. Like to be as alone as possible. Hence the state park thing... No boon-docking, just water and electricity. 30 amp.

We are pretty flexiable on travel just want stay within 10 hours because of time constraints. Don't want to spend the whole time driving.

Any help is appreciated. I have been looking on the internet but it's hard to get a feel of the place without being there. Once I narrow down a place or two, I can google map it and do more research, just need someone to give me some arrows....

Thank-you,
Shane

Be prepared for what counts as a hard freeze here in the DFW area. Teens at night at that high elevation by mid-November, I'm guessing.

Russellville, AR is very nice that time of year.

Mt. Nebo State Park has fantastic views. Plus, you get to drive the Scenic 7 Byway north from Hot Springs

Mount Nebo State Park in western Arkansas River Valley near Dardanelle - Arkansas State Parks

Try heading up to Dalhart on 287,cut across to New Mexico and aim for Angel Fire. You can then take the loop North to Red River 9000ft. and come back down to Taos ,Santa Fe and home.Done it sans trailer though, but was a nice 4 days.

Don't forget Louisiana State Parks! They are some of our favorites. Lake Bisteneau is especially nice. Their prices are nice too - a lot less than Texas Parks.

Mid-November could be tough in the higher mountains of northern NM. We can have a few nice days during that month here in Angel Fire, but the probability of frozen precip that does not melt until March grows with every passing day of the month.

That's the best description of DFW that I have ever heard! That's why after living there almost all my life we moved away a few years back -- and getting worse every year!
