Pittsburgh Area Campgrounds

I have to go to Pittsburgh PA for a convention in mid-June. I plan to stay in a downtown hotel for two days, but want to take the Airstream along and camp in it the night before the convention starts, plus get away early and go over to Ohio to visit my sister. Anyone know a good campground not too far out of Pittsburgh?

Safe, clean, full hookups are all I need.

Paula

Paula,
It isn't really close, but Penn Wood Airstream Park is only about 1.5 hours north of Pittsburgh and 4 miles south of I-80.

Thanks Deitz... I thought about it, but that's a bit too far. When it's over I'll want to boogie so I'd prefer something within 25 miles or so of Pittsburg, preferably to the west.

Paula, you would dare vote against the great and imperious OZ? [I really miss a font that would shake as you read it. ]My dad grew up in Clarion and I have many happy memories of visiting that area during my youth.

wannaroam lives at Harmony north of Pittsburgh. I wonder if she'd have any suggestions? (PM sent asking her to look in here)

Pittsburgh Campground

Raccoon Creek State Park was very pleasant a few years ago when I had to attend a class in Pittsburgh. http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/raccooncreek.aspx

It's next to Ohio and it's on a main road west from Pittsburgh.

Sorry to take so long to see this message; my email account was on the fritz. I never stay anywhere around here myself, so don't know any off the top of my head.

Raccoon Creek State Park itself is very nice, but I don't know about the campground there. I am not much help I'm afraid.

Hey Paula,

Check out Mountain Top Campground in Tarentum (northern suburb). I haven't stayed there yet, but booked for later this summer. Beautiful area and the closest campground I've found to downtown.

Paula,
I agree with the Raccoon Creek SP,but I don't believe you will have full hook-ups.
There are three KOA's within 1 hour of Pittsburgh and are all located off of major interstate highways heading to Ohio. They are also an easy trip to the city.

Good Luck,
Enjoy The Burgh!
Dave
