Pittsburg, KS RV Parks

We are looking for a RV Park in Pittsburg, KS for the holidays. Unfortunately, the only one we can find reviews for online is first come first serve only.

I found these parks online.

town & Country
whispering pines
country lane

Has anyone visited them?

The choices are not great, but at least they are cheap. I was doing some family history research in this area a few years back and camped in three area campgrounds. I use the term "camped" here because I was in a pop-up camper at the time with no heater. In Pittsburg, I stayed at the city campground. It was reasonable but not memorable. Twenty miles away, or so, is Erie, KS. They have a small 4 place campground in their city park. Pay at city hall. We payed $10 two years ago.

what holiday? little balkan days was 3 weeks ago...

there are some strange holidays but except for columbus day, not a lot right now,

are u thinking toward turkey day?

i agree the city parks are a great find, and each of the small towns near by have them.

for 1 nite/passing through they are nice/quiet finds.

there are several private rv parks, old poorly maintained and some with full timers...

look in woodalls or the good sam book, most won't be online.

this is a strangely interesting area with the mining history,

it's a typical coal-EXcoal miners, economically depressed area going back generations.

lots of middle european and military stuff from the days of forts and calvary.

the buster keaton film festival in iola is pretty cool...

THAT would be a fun time and place for a rally.

almost every one of the towns ON the map in that area

have city parks with a few camping sites,

and there are a couple of fairgrounds with camping too.

almost ALL of that stuff will be vacant.

pittsburg being the ah, urban center and college town has the most options...

i doubt the locals fuzz would object to a few nights of driveway camping in town.

don't forget to go for fried chicken (mary's OR annies)

and the diner/dive 'cafe on the route' in baxter springs...

there are some other unique eating options in the fried chicken capital o'the world.

cheers

Annie's is much better!!! We're going there for Turkey Day, and unfortunately, the city park doesn't take reservations, so we don't want to drive all the way up there and not have a place to hook up. My grandma has lived there for ever, and I've been going there since I was very young. I've been to the Idlehour, been fishing for catfish in the strip pits and was witness to the Gorillas being in the national spotlight with their winning season. With the exception of my mother, everyone else (uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews) all still live in Frontenac.

We'll have to pick up a directory and see.

frontenac, oh yeah, been there 2 and girard and so on.

being a real local as u are, this is probably not useful,

but have u checked the crawford county fairgrounds?

i can't imagine the city park being "full" over t'day,

but understand not wanting to go without a sure thing, somewhere.

i don't have the woodall's in front of me ...

but vaguely recall a rv park-slash-trailer park in town...

i am sure the stream will be an eye grabber where ever it's nested.

u might wanna look IN the links/websites in post #2 here, they are ks specific listings...

HA!! He doesn't share well... He's already stolen one machine from and I'm protecting this one zealously! Although, he still manages to get his grubby hands on it for hours at a time.. claiming he's working.

Yup, I believe it's called Town and Country -- I'm having my uncle drive over there in a few days and check it out -- it's just north of Pitt State and like 1 block west of broadway. I don't think the city park be full either, but you just never know. I haven't actually been back there in a few years, and we've never been there in our trailer (my parents used to stay at the city park in their class c from time to time).

Thanks for the info.
