From where I'm at, it's hard to open certain sites because of server filter~
I've been following your trip and, quite frankly..proud of your determination~!! It brings back fond memories of my solo trip to El Paso, TX. to grab my A/S...(Another story, another thread..)
Wishing you both a Safe & Good Trip~!!

53FC[/QUOTE]I"m at a different hotel here and the signal is stronger, maybe I won't get timed out. I'll pick my favorites and post some here. I"ll try to put more in airstreamphotos too.
Lost a window on the highway today. I was asleep in the back seat, Jeff said he heard a "pop" and there were shards all over the inside of the trailer when we parked it. I just hope no one got hurt when it broke, we have no idea when it happened. The wind was blowing hard on highway 80. We think something hit the window.
We're in Rawlings, Wyoming. Yes, it was probably a corning window, but we're going to tape the rest up a second time. In the meantime, advice, as always, would be appreciated...

The belly pan is torn, we knew that, but it wasn't a problem UNTIL...
...we hit the Utah Salt Flats and Jeff suddenly asks me, in the middle of my nap in the back seat, "INGRID WHAT'S THAT NOISE!!" and he says the truck feels like it's dragging a little, so we stop, in the middle of windy, desolate freakin' nowhere, and we look. The high winds (the kinds that rock the truck back and forth and try to tear the door out of your hands when you get out of the vehicle, and you , cant hear each other when you're shouting into each other's faces, "What? WHAT??") anyway, the winds have gotten into the tear in the belly pan and ripped the belly pan right off the bottom of the trailer, and it's dragging on the ground. Probably throwing sparks and we're lucky the insulation that was exposed didn't catch on fire, or some other disaster.
Since we're 100 miles from anywhere and there are no exits forever, we pull over and while semi's are blowing by with that weird train sound that changes tone while they pass you, we crawl underneath the trailer and Jeff LUCKILY has this industrial version of a box cutter, and he gradually is able to saw off the piece that's dragging on the ground. We threw that into the trailer, it can only be an improvement at this point... Jeff folds up the rest of it under the bottom so it's up enough to get it off the highway as we drive, but he can't squeeze under the trailer to push it up so it will stay that way.
Sooooooo, I inched myself under the trailer on my back, and got as close as I could to the folded up aluminum part, and when I got just in the right spot, Jeff said, "start kicking!!" So there I am, furiously kicking the folded aluminum up towards the trailer floor until we were sure it would stay. I knew karate would come in handy!
This is no big deal. We knew going in that the belly pan was open, and that it has to be torn out and replaced, so no big loss, The problem arose about 10 minutes later when we RAN OUT OF GAS. Jeff had a 1/2 tank leaving from the last place of civilization, and we were only going about 100 miles, but we didn't take into consideration towing the trailer and the extreme winds that just drain the gas right out of your vehicle. We were 9 miles away from the next city, which really isn't a lot, but of course, thinking we could make it, we opted to skip the rest stop that was 1/4 mile back from where we ended up pulling over. Which means no place to pee.
Cell phone gets a signal thank goodness!!!!!! Called Triple A, and the guy said we were his 12th gas rescue OF THE DAY to the Salt Flats area, so we felt less stupid, but you'll all be glad to know that a) we made it to the next city b) the Triple A guy came within 15 minutes, c) we found a casino to stay at (The Rainbow in West Wendover, Nevada) and it was a pretty nice stay. We had a good laugh about it and Jeff did some card playing while I swam in the pool, we met for dinner and debated which one of us Amelia will leap onto when we finally get home.
Now we're in Reno, found a room at Fitzgerald's (kinda cheesy but in a fun way), I'm at a java cafe by the Truckee River listening to live music with a warm breeze blowing in the door, maybe not quite back to civilization but at least in a familiar place. 9:30 the casinos all do fireworks off the roofs, it's a beautiful evening and we're coming home tomorrow. Jeff's asleep.
pictures of the adventure coming....
pf
oh, on the street fair today on the strip in Reno I bought 10 pink flamingo lawn ornaments for $10!

great reports! so glad to see that you got it home in one piece...(well, mostly ). Oh, and one great thing about aluminum: it won't spark. that alone is justification for spending the $$$ on aluminum propane tanks. they ain't just for "looks".
