Phoenix, Az. Camping

We are very possibly traveling to Phoenix around the 1st of June to the 16th of June. Campgrounds seem to be eluding us as we are 38 and 50, we have two Malamutes and a tiny Pitt Bull, and our Airstream 345 is over 10 years old. Anybody have any recommendations on places to stay? Needs to be within around 30 min of downtown. Would prefer full hookups but not a deal breaker. Bare minimum would be electric for the air conditioners. 30 amp.

The Mesa and Apache Junction area may have options but will be pushing the 30 minute to downtown Phx limit. Most of the parks are on the periphery of the city versus inside.

There is a small older park in South Scottsdale that has transitioned from mobile home to rv's. It's called Scottsdale RV Ranch, 480-945-7491. Nothing fancy but close to freeways and easy access into Phoenix. Trees are hit and miss so ask for a shade spot if they have one.

Some of our Casino's have parking also but not sure if hookups. Mesa also has park and ride for the light rail so not sure how long a commute into town would take on the light rail.

Thanks for the reply! I think I found a place. It is a bit north but seems nice enough. Definitely not a vacation spa but decent enough!

For future reference, McDowell Regional Park is a great campground - maybe a little bit pushing the 30 minute mark but not by much.

Also look at Cave Creek Regional Park along the Carefree Hwy, beautiful views.

On the far East side, the Lost Dutchman State Park located at 6109 North Apache Trail northeast of Apache Junction has full hookups with great views of the Superstition Mountains. There are summer rates.

Depending on the time of day, the drive to downtown Phoenix can take awhile as you and a few thousand close friends jockey for position on the six lanes in both directions US 60.
