In the state that issued the EZPass this may be true [in our NYS probably correct IMO], but with all the different states accepting our NYS EZPass, I would not expect that each and every state will have the automatic ability to discern when someone is towing a trailer. One way to find out! I just called my EZPass account service number, gave them the trailer info on the phone, and they mailed me a new unit to use when towing. You may not have time for this.
I think that it is possible to travel from Maine to Virginia, with our NYS EZPass handling ALL of the toll roads, bridges and tunnels. Very convenient, but not if there is some hiccup in another state because the basic EZPass is questioned or rejected.
And yes, RI 138 is going to save you lots of time and headache IMO. Don't be put off by a non-Interstate portion of the trip, the way some folks are.
Have fun!

This is kind of a hijacking but I would appreciate the info: The only states remaining in which we have not camped are Connecticut and Rhode Island.
If you have any scoop for good cgs along your route, please let me know.
Thanks - Pat

The trip is going well, now back home

At first I didn't want to add 15mins to our trip, but reality was that every trip on 95 resulted in at least 30 mins lost due to traffic and that wasn't always on weekends or commuting hours.
I plugged west central NJ to Cape Cod into google maps and oddly it came up with exactly that route. It just works well for us.
Also the reason I suggested going up the NY State Thruway to Newburg is due to the construction building the new Tappan Zee Bridge. Havent been through there in a couple months, but it was a tight mess when I was there last. If the work is done, it may be a good ride. If one did cross at the TZ Bridge, I would plan on taking 684 north to 84. Again, a few minutes longer, but a much better road and as noted....it heads one away from the "pushy" types found on 95.

The trip to Cape cod has been. success so far. We are in a great camp ground in Falmouth. Would have stayed Mid-Cape next time.
The route including 138 worked out pretty well, minus the traffic on 95 around CT every 5 miles.
Going home I am going to take 495 to 84, straight across. My question is about rest stops on I84 going West Bound, doesn't seem like there are many???
If not I guess I am looking for a gas station off an exit.

This is a well traveled route so many exits have gas and food. Danbury CT has a big rest area that I think you can stay and sleep. I have gassed up around Fishkill Ny just past the Taconic parkway. Middletown CT is a good place to fuel up as well. I have driven this route a few times in the last six months as I live in Newport, RI. It's been a great summer in New England.

Glad the trip is working out! Ditto to the last post that the I-84 route is well-traveled, so I wouldn't stress about gassing up. Sorry -- not familiar with the rest areas. Safe home!

There are rest stops on 84, but no gas. If you can time it so you need a fill at NY exit 1, you'll get a decent price. There are several stations and the are all in NJ which tends to have better prices (although not as good as before they raised the tax).

There is a full rest area, with fuel in the jump from 495 on the MaPike before you get to 84, then on 84 almost at the end (in CT) there is a good one for napping, I believe exit 7ish. Good luck and safe travels

As I read Randy's post, that gas stop might be on the Mass Pike before I-84 heads south. I would not expect it to be on I-495.

Ahhh went back and reread it again, you are right. So that stretch of I90 west bound is where I will find my service station.
