Per mile tow charges

Anyone have any idea what I should charge (per mile) for towing a trailer to another destination? I've sold my trailer to someone up in Michigan and he wants me to tow it 208 miles one way from Ohio. Its 417 miles round trip. I've never done it before so I'm just not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. We don't need to tell anyone else in Ohio that I sold a trailer to someone in Michigan......it can just be our own little secret!

Thanks!!

Just my opinion,
Price should be per mile based on the one way miles to drop off. Your return trip costs should be built into this amount. Earlier this year when I was looking for my TT the numbers I was looking at were from $1.00 to $1.50 per mile. With the cost of fuel being what it is, I would think $2.00 per mile would be a reasonable amount. I would quote them $400 and go from there.

$2.00 is pretty crazy. With gas prices coming back down, we've actually been getting about $1.25 per mile and that's through Horizon who has to pay a driver and a big insurance premium. You could probably still get away with $1.30 or $1.40 depending on the customer.

BTW, It's perfectly ok to sell a trailer to someone in Michigan as long as there's something wrong with it that you didn't tell them about! J/K!

Thanks so much for the feedback!! Although I entertained actually breaking something on the trailer, I'm afraid it all works and what's worse....I told him all the details. Well...at least we'll kick their butts in todays game. Go Bucks!!

I have done it for $2.00 per mile, on a 31 footer last year.
