Pearl Lake CG near Stemboat Spgs Co

I've already reserved a site (28) at Pearl Lake. We've spent a few weeks at Hahn's Peak, many years ago, and enjoyed it, but the Pine Beetle really destroyed a lot of the trees up there. We wanted to go back, but did not want to go for the bigger crowds at Steamboat Lake. So, we are trying Pearl Lake.
Just curious, is it as "open" as some of the pictures I've seen? We do like a little shade, if possible, and as much privacy as we can get. Taking the kayak, and hoping to get into a few cutthroat trout on Pearl. Looking for some good hiking trails in the area. Steamboat has some decent restaurants, and shopping for tourist stuff.
Any other suggestions in the area? We will take a generator, but won't need it too much, unless we need the furnace.
We've hit most every other part of Colorado over the years, and are just now going back to some favorites.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
Jeff

Greetings and Welcome from Steamboat!
Peral Lake is a great little campground. The campground roads and pads are gravel and very rustic. No hook-ups but there are water spigots scattered around the campground.

The trees are not as dense as before the beetle kill, but still plenty left. I like that it is a little more open.

Still snow up there but the campground is opened.

Have a great visit and PM me if you have any questions.

Safe travels,

Gilpin Lake trail and the Gold Creek Lake Loop at the end of Seedhouse Road is a fun hike.

One of my favorite places is Stillwater Lake, Bear Lake, and Gardener Park Lake areas out of Yampa. Be sure to stop at Montgomery's store and pick up a pound of his No. 7 Sausage.

I'm jealous you all get to live up there full time. I don't know if I could hold a job if I lived in Colorado. Ha! Thanks for the information on the lake, the trails, and of course, the #7 Suusage! I'll let you know how it goes, and tastes.

Quick update. We just got back from Pearl Lake. What a fantastic place. We started in site 26, and moved to 28 because we couldn't get a 7 night reservation. Fished the Yampa, King Solomon Creek, Hawn's Peak Lake and Pearl. Hiked various trails around Pearl and Hawn's Peak. Had perfect weather (80s during the day, 30s at night) great campfire weather.

The last pic is site 28. I should have taken it in the morning, instead of the evening. Just forgot.
This is a very quiet CG, no hookups at all. We were pretty careful about conserving water, and had a generator. Since we moved on day 5, we added a few gallons of water. Nice flush toilet near by. The hosts were very friendly and had some great, dry firewood.
We will probably go back to Pearl.
It was sad to see all the stumps from the pines that had to be taken out, but lots of new growth. The upper loop is much further from the lake, and has even fewer trees. I don't know if I'd take a spot in the upper loop.
Thanks again everyone for the advice.
As a side note, we didn't spend much time in Steamboat. We hadn't been there for 20+ years. Wow, has it grown. Ran into some very frustrated drivers with all the traffic. Some were downright rude. Lots of honking and finger pointing. Just unhappy people I guess. Considering where they live??

Just a few with no patience. I have lived here over 30 years and I see it on occasion. On behalf of Steamboat, I apologize. They have no reason to be rude. Most everyone was a visitor at one time before moving here.

That's what I was thinking. I can't imagine buying a home there, and not realizing there might be a few of us tourists around. We love it there, but it's too far from the grandkids to make it a permanent location.
