Parking in No VA

I am looking for a place to park my 34' AS Trailer in the northern VA area (Quantico / Stafford) as I work out of there about 2 weeks a month. The other time I'm in upstate NY. Looking for a place I could hook up with Elec / Water. Anyone know of a place?

Let me Know too Rob

Rob,
I am working up in the Manassas area There is a campground below Quantico, on old US 1 north of Aquia, VA. I will see if I can get the name when I head back up on Monday afternoon. It is a little too far for me to commute to my jobsite in Manassas, but should be good for Quantico. There don't seem to be too many campgrounds in that area. I did just a brief look around and other than the NPS on Va234 there just is not much to be had. Not suprising considering property values in the area.

A Place further defined.

Aaron,

Thanks. I think it is Aquia Pines. What I'm looking for is a place maybe on a farm or outside of Fredericksburg where I could just park the trailer, use my generator if I'd have too, and just have a place to crash during the week. Aquia Pines is like 35 a night. I'm going to check on the base, as they have a really nice campground out on Lunga Resevoir out by the FBI Academy. Only $18 a night. I'll be staying Monday, Tues, Wed, and Thursday nights - going home on Friday and returning Monday. I know it's alot of on the road time...but after being gone for two years, four nights is nothing. Maybe I can find something east or west of Fredericksburg. Might be someone on here that has a link to someone there. We just stopped at Travel Trailer village and they are 25 a night.

Thanks again.

Rob

While I'm down there, we'll have to get together some time to talk Airstreams. My email is rbaker@osec.com.

Unfortunately we don't have a place to put another trailer (and we're West, not South of the city). Actually, I haven't noticed anyone from that area on this forum.

Here's a place that I've heard is pretty nice:

http://www.traveltrailervillage.com/

It's right in Quantico.

I tried emailing you this site over a week ago--I guess you didn't get it...

Good luck!

Mary

Mary beat me to it!

Rob,

The place that Mary gave the link to is the place I know about. Have passed there many times on to the base. From the campground to the base is about 5 minutes. You would go down 234 to 95(about 2 1/2 miles), travel south on 95 for about 2 miles(base is next exit down), take the base exit and you are at the front gate! I checked out their web site, looks like your camper is already there behind the play ground! I will be down on base in a few weeks, need to upgrade some software for them. See you at CBR!

Guys,
The place Mary posted has a 2 week limit this time of year. I did check it out, it is also about $30 a night. During the "off" season they have a 28 day stay limit. I try to avoid places like that for the long term, because I usually don't know how long my stays are really going to be.

Like the robots in Rivet Town say

See a need / fill a need. Saw Robots on the I-MAX in Charleston, SC. The opening scens start out in rivet town...with lots of Rivets. A neat little film.

Rob

Business type hook ups???

I think the stay limit may be this way because it's on Federal land (rented to the park operators, from what I can see from the Prince William Forest webpage). The property adjoins the land used for training the Marines and the FBI. I'm thinking there may be a little anti-terrorism regulation in the works, not just campground owners with attitude issues. If you end up going downtown at all while you are here, you will realize it just isn't anything like the kind of place it was five years ago. Odd--some of the things we put up with were the kinds of things I remember finding mockable back when I visited the old USSR. Odder still, it just doesn't bother me like it did back then!

As for the high cost of night stays, that's about typical for rv sites close to the city. There's a shortage of places, so the costs are high. The only other ones I know of are pretty much in that range and higher.

I just did a google local search (try it, it will show you exactly where these places are, though it also pulls up some irrellevant sites). The next closest park is the one Aaron recommends:
http://www.aquiapines.com/

Then, Fredericksburg KOA:
http://www.koakampgrounds.com/where/va/46105/

Then there are few a bit further off, but still in the general area--

Edenton Hiram:
http://yellowpages.superpages.com/pr...zSky4cqg%3D%3D

Aqua Land (not sure they take rvs):
http://www.campingnavigator.com/campgrounds/1721.html

Harbor View Campground
15 Harbor View Circle
Colonial Beach, VA 22443
(804)224-8164
Fax: (804)224-2900

The last two are near Harley Muse's place--he probably can tell you about them.

Mary,
This seems to be a common denominator in State and Federal Parks. I have yet to see a state park where a stay can exceed 30 days with the 2 week limit being more common. It has been this way as long as I can remember. I would suspect that due to their usually lower than commercial rates (especially in the case of state parks) they are attempting to discourage squatters. Probably the same reason some RV parks don't want to allow units over 10 years old...they feel that the people that own them are in someway...undesirable
