Park Refused/ trailer age

What years of AS are refused because of age? Iíve read camps refuse RVís if they are over 10 years.

Totally depends on the park. They're usually just trying to keep the beater trailers away, so if you have an old well-kept Airstream, often sending photos to prove it's in good shape will get you in.

If an Airstream looks shiny, tidy, and clean, it's rarely refused. If someone is dumb enough to discriminate against a tidy looking Airstream like mine (11 years old), I will depart, and immediately make darn sure the world on this forum knows that is a place to avoid...regardless of the age of the Airstream.

Most answer the question of, "How old is your trailer?" with, "It's an Airstream." and the silliness stops right there.

The reason for the restriction is to keep beat-up, rattletrap SOB trailers with equally beat-up occupants out of the nicer RV parks. It has nothing to do with age...it's a subtle way to improve the scenery.

Whatever rules the owner of an RV park enforces is up to them, as long as there is no illegal discrimination.
I've never been refused in any Airstream I've owned, some 25+ years old. When asked its age, I just say it's an Airstream. No more questions.

The reason for not allowing old trailers is two fold.
1. Appeal - To make the park look nicer and keep better clientele.
2. Money - To keep people from abandoning junk trailers in the park, to avoid the cost to physically remove an old trailer, and to avoid loss of rental revenue while the legal process is going on if a trailer is left.

Know of an abandoned empty boat trailer in the storage yard I use. The monthly bill was not paid in forever. It took about 8 months to get the paperwork done to get rid of it. In the meantime, the storage outfit lost $90 a month in rental for the spot the junker occupied once they started the procedure, and who knows how much in unpaid rent.

From the RV park and storage outfits, abandoned stuff is a major issue...

Hi

As noted above, there is no set / magic rule about age. It's something you *might* run into, but maybe never will. I certainly would not let it bias my search for the "perfect" AS.

To the untrained eye, Airstreams all look alike. I apply Armor All to the tires, and my 1999 looks new again. When asked year, answer ''Airstream''...game over.

Made a reservation in 2 parks with an trailer age limit this year. Had to submit information including age of the trailer by email and then they return with a phone call for the reservation. Both let us in (1988 trailer). I was sweating because we really needed the one in Salem on the 4 th of July. But in the past I have been refused. It can certainly happen. Just part of camping to deal with now. In one case the policy said that they could refuse trailers more than 10 years old not that they would.

I suspect towing in a tidy Airstream with a shiny, clean, modern tow vehicle helps as well.

Walking into the office dressed neatly and looking clean and tidy would also be an indication of a reasonable owner.

It's a 'first impression thing', then the default, "What year is the trailer?" to avoid being accused of discrimination.

I've never been asked the age of the Airstream, and most places I park (KOA, mostly) only ask the brand of the trailer and tow vehicle so they can find you if needed, if that. I tend to check in so darn late at night the office is usually closed anyway. Had a concerned KOA owner in Texas call us while we were enroute, wondering if we were OK, because it was getting quite late. Told her we were OK, just behind schedule and being careful, and that we were stopping to get dinner first not far from the KOA. Very nice folks...stay there every time we pass through.

We haven't had that problem.
There are many many parks. and our reputation precides us. So allways put you best foot forward for those of us that follow you and we will all sleep better. More often we regect the park.
