Park Information

Does anyone know if the O'leno State Park north of Gainesville, FL is a good place to camp? We will be there in October and it is closest to our interests. Any information on this park will be apreciated.Thanks,

We stayed there one night, but it was only enroute to another location, so did not get the full experience. However, it has been our experience that the FL state parks are generally superb.

Sorry I could not be more help. Oleno was definitely nice, though. If your travels take you further south, we have camped at some other state parks such as Myakka River SP. If you can go towards Tampa/St. Pete, one of the best areas is Fort Desoto - a county park. If you head west on the panhandle, check out Grayton SP - right on/near the beach and gorgeous.

When you cross the border into Florida, stop at the first rest area and they should have a guide for the state parks. We have yet to go to a Florida state park we didn't like!

That is good to know as this is our first trip to the Sunshine State and we plan on spending several weeks. That is unless the weather doesn't cooperate. We plan on going through your state, but don't know if it will be on the way down or on the way back.
