Palm Springs Recommendations?

We are hoping to extend our weekend in Twentynine Palms with a micro-snowbird experience for a couple of days in Palm Springs area... We are hoping to find upscale spa-like RV park, with pools, WiFi, exercise facilities and close access to Village and Palm Springs activities.

We are hoping to avoid the windswept paved date-palm adjacent places with views of I-10, and also avoid long term and mobile home parks. We can pass for 55+ if required, but could also easily handle family parks..

Any suggestions to avoid or try from SoCal folks? Places like Emerald Desert, Desert Oasis and Happy Valley are on list to check out...

John,
They have some very nice parks out there, but some are very close to I-10, indeed.
I would Google-Earth the address, and take a look before booking.
Good Luck

Desert Hot Springs

As an alternative, there are some nice parks near Desert Hot Springs with - you guessed it! - HOT Springs!
We stayed there en route to Baja a few times and always had a nice time.
It is a 30min drive or so from DHS to Palm Springs.
Most of the parks are near Dillon Road.

Vielen Dahnk Uwe...

We stayed a long long time ago near Indio, and it was cold, windy and dusty with a lot of asphalt.. Hoping not to repeat.. Happy Valley claims to be only location near downtown, but also uses term "quaint" in directory listing.. That word can be scary in lodging advertising, or positive.. Hard to tell without seeing...

There is a Thousand Trails RV Park in Palm Desert (Palm Springs adjacent). They are supposed to have all the bells and whistles. We have not stayed there so no guarantees, but it may suit you two. I googled it. There is a lot of info. Ron

After the rally in 29 Palms, we are planning to head down to San Diego with stops along the way in Palm Springs and Anza Borego. We are hoping to get a night at the Outdoor Resort of Palm Springs, a humongous place with 1,213 full hookup sites!!! 8 pools, 3 9-hole golf courses, 14 tennis courts, 10 spas, etc., etc. Something like this shouldn't be missed even for the price of about $70/night. Has anyone ever been there?

I had heard that Emerald Desert would be closing soon - but I don't see anything about that on their website Emerald Desert Golf & RV Resort

Emerald Desert is very nice - but next to the train and freeway. Not many travel trailers there - mostly large motor homes from Canada this time of year :-). We are always dwarfed by those big rigs.

We drove through Happy Traveler RV Park - it is a quaint old-school rv park with modest amenities - doesn't look like it has changed since the 50's or 60's - looks like some of the trailers are full-timers there. We would only stay there if we had to - or if we really needed to be in Palm Springs proper for some reason.

Outdoor Resort is next on our list to try - looks very nice and not next door to the freeway.

Wow...

Outdoor Resorts Palm Springs or even their less glamorous (and cheaper) affiliate Desert Shadows both look pretty upscale... Thanks for the tips..

John,

Apparently, the Desert Shadows place is "clothing optional" or "no clothing allowed." I don't see that it offers campsites, however.

Interesting...

Nothing on Desert Shadows RV Resort says anything about clothing or options.. It looks just like the other parks managed by same developer (Four are linked on website home page..). All offer short term rentals, as well as lots or lots with RV's for sale..

Think we may try to find a spot at Outdoor Resort...

John,

I was pulling your leg, but there is a place with the same name of "Desert Shadows."

Check out Nudist Resort Clothing Optional Resort - Naturist Resort Desert Shadows Inn Resort & Villas - Palm Springs CA.

Emerald Desert

"I had heard that Emerald Desert would be closing soon - but I don't see anything about that on their website Emerald Desert Golf & RV Resort..."

I believe they have shrunk in size, turning one end into townhouses, but still remain. Very nice upscale park with easy access to Palm Springs, etc. Yes, gigantic motor homes but lots of aluminum, too.

Thanks for clarification Mike... Somehow temps in 40's and rain don't seem like time to consider the naturist experience...

And I saw references as well to sale of Emerald Desert with plan to convert to Condo's after the "Season" in late spring.. Once temps rise above 100, many places empty out, and construction can begin....

Closing the Loop...

We just returned from frigid trip to high desert (29 Palms..) and Low Desert (Palm Springs/Cathedral City) and wanted to report on our stay at Outdoor Resorts RV Park...

It is huge (1200+ spaces), beautifully maintained, 8 pools, 4 spas, 27 holes of golf, two huge rec rooms with stages, kitchens, espresso bars, etc... Lots of rules, as you might expect from what is essentially RV Condo park, where each lot is individually owned and managed through POA. Short term or long term rentals are available (usually lots for sale..) and prices are stiff, at $73 per night, including taxes...

We were one of 4 Airstream trailers out of 1200 sites, and the smallest at 25'. Standard living quarters would be Monaco Grand Motor Home or Huge 5th wheel. Most folks had golf carts + cars to get around town... Too cold to use water, and didn't have time for golf. No WiFi or cable... Happily retired neighbor (21 year owner..) advised that all but 40 or 50 rigs leave for summer (temps hovering around 120 degrees..) and so you pay $100K+ and $200/month in homeowner dues for a place to park 5 or 6 months a year...

John McG

We'd consider this a treat for a longer stay where weather better and we used amenities.. For 1 or 2 night place to sleep, it was too expensive... Emerald Desert or other less expensive spots would work..
