Padre Island Campground
Can anyone recommend a campground around Padre Island, TX for the first week in November?

Howdy! Our grandkritters were "moved" by their parents to Aransas Pass as our son took a job in Port Aransas.
When there I rode through a couple I "parks".
It would be difficult to maneuver our 34' AS in any if the parks we visited.
We will be staying in Aransas Pass during Thanksgiving week. It is a park near where they live. http://www.ransomroadrvparkinc.com
Sorry not much help.

We recommend boondocking on the beach.

Matagorda Bay Nature Center has a very nice RV park; concrete pads, full service and proximity to the beach.
It's north of Corpus and Padre, but much nicer.

Hold the phone! Please pardon what could be a dumb question. How does this work? Do you take a ferry to the island? I've never been there.

You drive.
You can drive out onto the beach to camp, which is so, so fun!!!
There is a water fill and a dump station, too.
We'll be down there late jan-early-feb-ish, will look for silver.

Lagoons RV Resort in Rockport (15 minute drive from Aransas Pass) is an excellent park. Also, be sure to eat at Redfish Willy's at Sag Harbor in AP.

Is this Isla Blanca? I don't see Padre Island State Park on the Texas State Park reservation list.

I think that would be Mustang island SP, on Padre island, or Padre island National Seashore.

Yes, Mustang Island is an island where Port Aransas and Mustang Island State Park as well as Pioneer RV Resort is located. There is a free state operated ferry that will get you there from Aransas Pass, but there is also a bridge from Corpus Christi that will take you to the north end of North Padre Island and a small bridge connects Mustang to North Padre across the Packery Channel. There is a bridge from Matamoros to the south end of South Padre Island.

south padre island
We stayed on South Padre island last winter. There are 2 rv parks run by the county. We stayed in the one on the southern end of the island for 2 weeks. There are 350- 400 sites in the south park. Full hookups run if I remember @ 27- 32 a night + electric. Our electric ( water heater,2 1500 w heaters ) ran around $20 for the 2 wks. Gulf beach @ 200-300 yds from site. The north campground run by the county has 75-100 sites. There is a KOA on the south end of the island just north of the county park located on the sound. South Padre has 1 bridge to cross the causeway @ 1 mile in length. During spring break about 2-3 hrs to get back & forth across the bridge.

We spent several days on the beach and loved it, however the salt air/spray probably did more damage to the uncoated aluminum on our old trailer than the previous 40 years had.
If doing this again I would try to have an extra barrel or other source of water to flush the trailer off from time to time

Mmmmmm, that salt air.......
Our first, and most vivid, experience down there was with mosquitoes.
We were in the campground at Padre Island NS, as I recall, and the mosquitoes were so thick we couldn't leave the Interstate. We were covered with them any time we went outside.
We followed others to the beach, where the daytime breezes kept the buggers away. We just closed up at night, with the vent fan on, and were very comfortably lulled to sleep by the surf.
One of our best memories, ever.
Maggie
