Packed and ready to leave tomorrow morning

My wife and I accompanied by our 3 year old black female greyhound leave home tomorrow morning for a month or more of relaxed travel down the west coast, east into Arizona and around the south end of the state up through Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon and back home. No real schedule just trying to find good weather and good times.
We've been trailering since the early seventies, worn out a couple of box trailers and traveled several hundred thousand miles over the years wintering in Arizona five years previously. First trip with our Airstream to Arizona and look forward to it.
We bought it new in 2010 and now have over 25,000 mi and 300 nites in her. I replaced the wheels with 16" and Michelins and am very happy. I installed a microwave and did some cabinet enhancements.
I'll try to post occasionally and include pictures.

Enjoy, lord knows the rain lately is enough to make anyone head out for a month.

There's a bunch of AS folks in Fall City and Snoqualmie... we ought to join up at the Last Frontier Saloon one night and share a beverage.

Have fun on your trip. You'll find out which is faster, your greyhound or a jack rabbit. I'll bet on black No schedule is the best schedule.

I just came back from a month in Tucson stopping first at the Grand Canyon. My first winter without fog and cold in many years. Enjoy your ride.

I'm also right behind you, going to Quartzsite, Az for a month or so. Haven't decided yet whether to go via I-5 through CA or I-84/US-95 through NV. It depends on the weather.

We are sitting in the Tucson sun as I write this. Do not miss the five inches of rain that fell in the PNW last weekend. I love Oregon, but don't miss the gloom and wet.
Come down as soon as you can!

I'm jealous-
Here I sit at WORK-
We may take the trailer for a weekend getaway Friday- if my wife doesn't have to work Saturday-
We are going to see the Lion King at the Orpheum in Memphis. If my wife has to work Saturday, we will go in the car. If my wife does not have to work Saturday we will take the trailer to E Z Daze RV park in Southaven for the weekend. We won't know till 3 o'clock Friday afternoon-
I will have the truck gassed up and coupled up ready to roll just in case. It kinda sorta stays ready to go because he truck is a dedicated tow vehicle.

Night 2

Long day for us today. 320 mi more or less arriving at the Premier resort in Redding CA around 3:30 pm. I find my domestic tranquility much happier if I don't drive more than around250 mi a day. And what the heck, we're not on a schedule and nobody is waiting for us so why not take it easy?
Had a beautiful day crossing the Siskyous Mtns. Main pass is 4300 ft and you go up and down four times in oregon to around 2000 feet approaching the main pass.
Traffic was light to moderate and Mt. Shasta was gorgeous.
Shirt day tomorrow to Vinyard RV park just north of Vaccaville, ca. We'll stay 3 or 4 nights there and soak up the warmth and sun.
I tell my Seattle area friends that when I arrive in Vaccaville I can wake up in the morning, see a palm tree outside the window and put on shorts. That is my definition of a perfect winter.
More tomorrow and a few Picts.
NW Greyhound
Ps, Lara, when we return I would like to have a Snoqualmie Valley AS gathering at the fall city campground. I'll bring a meat smoker and we'll shoot the breeze and walk to the Longbranch for a tall one.

Day 3 to Arizona from PNW

Short day today. Redding to Vaccaville. Staying at the Vinyard RV park which I recommend. We'll stay 3 nights to get acclimated to sunshine and 72 degrees then move on to Bakerfield and east through the Mohave.
Sorry, Glen, I didn't read your post suggesting breakfast this morning in Redding. That was nice of you to suggest it and then, hearing no response to find us just as we were pulling out of camp in Redding. We would have met up with you had I read your post.

Good day today through the rice fields and almond orchards of north central Ca.

We bought our unit in Nevada last summer and then drove it to Florida and then back to Washington State. I write because I was so happy to see someone write that 350 miles of driving in a day is a lot ad 250 miles driving makes for so much more marital bliss!

Thanks
Tim

day 4 non travel

anyone can drive the long days but not all of us do it with the same ease. We're just old enough that too many hours in the truck seat cause the lower back to ache a little, the legs to feel like they need a good walk and the brain to go a little numb. Even though I'm pretty religious about two hour break intervals we feel better with 250 mi days.

Say what you will about California this morning is beautiful.

We travel cross country with the Airstream quite often. We also prefer a 250 to 300 mile travel day. We have gotten to where we make a short stop about every 90 minutes. We still occasionally do a 500 mile day, but it kind of beats us up now that we are old people. We also sometimes do 50 mile days when some unexpected attraction catches our eye. Such is the beauty of Airstreaming.
