My Fantastik Vent repair a success.

I just finished replacing the circuit board in one of our Fantastik vents....it is the automatic rain sensor one with a remote control......Both of them have been acting up so I called them (we went right by the factory when we were in Michigan-darn it). They fed exed new remotes and circiuit boards...with the help of their tech support, I was able to replace the circuit board (not the rain sensor so hope it still works) and reprogram the remote......cross your fingers that it will close automatically if it rains......

I was between a rock and a hard place.....needing the fans to work but not having time to take the trailer to a repair shop and worried that the mobile repair people might not know how to fix it....I asked the tech support what would happen if I failed...he said there would be no failure so I ventured on. The hardest part was removing the connectors from the old circuit board....I did a few at a time (8 of them) so I wouldn't mix up where the go......hubby helped hand me screws and screw drivers.....not his thing to do.....

We leave Sunday for Madison.....paula

We went into the city in preparation for Ed's speech today on Disaster Preparedness....Remember Harry Caray? The architecture here is wonderful....a couple of shots from my Droid.

Smile Another custom Airstreamer

Today, Ed is speaking to a group of attorneys (NAELA) National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys about business continuation after a disaster.....and at breakfast we met a couple - both lawyers- who purchased a shell from Jackson Center in 2008, shipped it to Denver to Timeless Travel Trailers, had them completely customize the interior in hopes of someday living and working full time in their Airstream. They are from Knoxville, TN. You can find their trailer on the Timeless Travel Trailer website.....it looks wonderful.....

It is such a small world and little did we expect to be sharing Airstream build stories here in Chicago at the conference breakfast.

Oh, and Bandit is at the Fish Island Beach RV park in Volo with a nice lady who is dogsitting....

Had to share 2 more photos....the wheels are in the Garmin store on Michigan Avenue....the No Peddling sign was on the street here in Chicago....do you suppose they mean No Pedaling or Peddling? One can wonder.

Good job with the vent and I'm enjoying the pictures. Although I want to avoid that bike wreck!

Hey Paula,
You are right there where I grew up. I'm from Emmetsburg. My brother went to college in Storm Lake. The Iowa great lakes area is the best! Enjoy!

We have seen several of the Barn Quilts in Tillamook Oregon. I'll try to get a picture for you.

What an unexpected surprise our trip through Iowa. Still can't get over the barn quilts. Our trip to Omaha found us dodging severe thunderstorms. The sky was unlike any we had ever seen. Would go back there again. P

Omaha was great

We met our dear friend, Mary, who lives in Hooper and she showed us an amazing bronze larger than life sculptures honoring the pioneers and their spirit......you can walk among them and you get a pretty good idea of the western movement.....with wagons for the possessions--most of the folks walked....much harder than our trip. Also a wonderful pedestrian bridge crossing the Missouri River in Omaha....the river is still very high.

Omaha, NE

I forgot to mention we had to approach Omaha from a different direction due to severe thunderstorms in the Sioux City area....no problem, we just went south and west instead of west and south.....thanks to our Oregon Scientific Weather station we had warning...we packed up at Storm Lake and literally skirted the storms all the way to Omaha...

Missed you. Have lots to tell you.....we are home but need to post some adventures before I get to that place.....we loved the redwoods......hard to believe they are so huge....hard to see the leaves or needles or whatever they have.....we saw old growth white pines in Michigan....not quite as huge but impressive nonetheless....p

University of Nebraska Omaha

Ed's last presentation was before the Nebraska State Bar at the Scott Conference center at the U of NE Omaha. We were invited to park our Airstream in the lot across the street. Since we can be self contained, we took them up on the offer......the only venue where we were able to park right there.

After the event, we took off mid afternoon and headed northwest to Route 20 and made it to Atkinson, NE before dark. We stopped at the Wheel Inn and were reassured that the cement block bathrooms were always open and would serve as a shelter in case of a tornado and the siren would blow. We did pull over near Scribner to give Mary her shirt I had taken by mistake the night before.....she lives in the country nearby (Hooper). paula
