Paula, we were in Michigan a couple of years ago and I don't remember them being bad and we still have our license plate.

Hey, Paula P! Found your thread and have enjoyed reading about your journey. Sounds like our CaliGurl is having a ruff time of it with weather?! Hopefully things will change for the better! I adore thunder & lightening storms...just not in an Airstream. Temps are hitting 100 deg here in Ojai today! Keep those photos coming!

ps - Boone send hugs to Bandit!

Hey Paula,
Do you still have the information of that Airstream only RV park you were telling us about. I have started to plan that leg of the trip.

Hi, it is the washington land yacht harbor in olympia, wa.

You can google it. They are staffed with volunteers with short operating hours so don't worry if you don't get a prompt response. It was $ 17 per night or $ 350 per month.

No showers or laundromat but full hookups. Pm me for more info. P

Hey SilverPal, nice to hear from you.....yes, it is ruff, mainly because of the dog.....if we were alone, we could just go to a movie, a mall or out to eat...but Bandit cannot accompany us there and there is no way he could pass as a service dog......but we kept visiting Lewis & Clark information places and we saw how they made the trip.....and we felt silly for whining.....of course, they didn't go to Oklahoma City but they did start in St. Louis up the Missouri and on....they didn't have to worry about their dogs being welcome though......but seeing their river boat, it was nothing like our SteSpot....

Also, I am afraid to leave Bandit alone in the trailer with the airconditioner on.....on Monday at Jackson Center, the power went out at 4:30 pm just after a shift change and was out for 2 1/2 hours.....it quickly got up to the high 90's inside our silver bullet. Had we left him and gone to dinner, I am afraid he would not have survived.

Can't wait to see our grandchildren.....what a nice treat to be able to hook up with them in Michigan...keep kool in Ojai............p

Michigan via Emergency Room

We are now in a little part of heaven called Cedar Lake in Oscoda, MI. We left Pier-Lon Campground in Medina, Oh yesterday after Ed's presentation in downtown Cleveland.....we drove Highway 20 towards Toledo....we made a quick stop and Ed banged his shin into the trailer by the step and he got a nasty cut that was pretty deep....I said, "I think you need stitches" as I was cleaning the wound and trying to get the bleeding stopped....Ed said where would we do that out in the middle of nowhere?....well, Ohio is not in the middle of no where. In fact, according to Garmin there was a hospital in Bellevue just 4.8 miles down the road.....so that is where we stopped and after an hour, he was stitched up and given a perscription for antibiotics that we were informed we could get for free down the road in Perrysburg...no kidding....the pharmacies in Ohio are dispensing free drugs.....

Anyway, back on the road, I then called my very first friend in the world (our mom's were pregnant at the same time) and learned that they were on the road north of Flint, MI (75/23)....so we decided to meet up at Birch Run.....now they live in Arizona and we live in CA.....and here we are meeting at Applebees in Michigan.....so we met them for a traffic break before heading on to see our California grandchildren who are in Michigan visiting outlaw family on a beautiful lake called Cedar Lake in Oscoda, MI.

We haven't seen our grandkids since leaving CA on June 6 and it was such a treat to find them having a wonderful time boating, fishing, water skiing and hanging out with their other grandparents....it can't get much better than this and the weather is KOOL.......who minds a few skeeters?

So far the roads in Michigan have been pretty good....that is 23 north and I-75 lets say between Toledo and Saginaw......then 23 along the coast of Lake Huron.....wow.....this lake looks like an ocean.....but calm.....beautiful...

By the way, my Verizon Droid with an app called EasyTether ($9.99) is a great way to connect to the Internet while on the road.....I have a unlimited data plan and am finding it far superior to trying to connect to Wifi.....

Upper Peninsula Michigan

We have finally found some really nice weather. Yesterday we drove over the Machinaw Bridge (almost 5 miles long) to St. Ignace and Sault Ste Marie to see the Soo Canals.....we saw a huge cargo ship being lowered from Lake Superior to Lake Huron (I think) it is 23 feet lower.....quite an engineering feat....some say that that is how the war was won keeping the shipping of iron ore going south.

Today we went with our friends, Mary Lea and Ken with our bikes to Machinaw Island......it is a beautiful island and no cars are allowed.....just horses and bikes and feet......I hope to post some photos tonight.....we rode the 8 miles around the island...saw many many cairns ? along the way...the ferry is just a 15 minute ride....was a little choppy on the return and those of us on the top deck got a little spray...

We like it here.....
Tomorrow we are off to Petoskey ? spelling (just a little south). Sure hope the weather stays cool a little longer.....

Hi, Paula. We are also traveling with a dog [Dusty] and in cold weather he could be left alone in the trailer for about four hours max. We had to take a 12 hour bus tour seperately. Lee on the first day and I went the next day. We planned another tour on a boat and it was an all day trip. Too long to leave Dusty alone. It was suggested that we talk to the people in the camp ground office and see about a dog sitter. Well we did that and it worked out great. Dusty loved the dog sitter and we had a worry free boat tour.

Not sure where you are going, but we liked Duluth. There are some good restaurants in the area near the lift bridge. There's a public campground—I think the city owns it—south of downtown along a river (St. Louis R. maybe) that was nice.

I hope that cut is healing well.

Hi Robert, yes, we are learning a lot about Doggie Day Care and Kennels for Bandit....Yesterday in a Machinaw City Campground there was a day care facility 300 yards from us....we dropped Bandit off at 9 am and caught the ferry to Machinaw Island with our friends and bikes......had a great day and made it back before 6 pm to pick up Bandit.......sometimes we have to board him overnight because we have early meetings or dinner engagements and so far, have been lucky to have found some what seem to be very nice care facilities for our dog......it is a learning experience for us...we take dog walk breaks, travel with his food, water and shot records all the time....and we have found KOAs have Bark Parks that are really nice for an active boxer......finding campgrounds with fenced dog runs are huge---maybe even more important than full hookups....then nice to have laundry......we have now been on the road over 2 months........and the weather is nice here in Northern Michigan....paula
