Brake Controller Issues

As we were driving towards Cheyenne and Denver, we noticed our brake controller was not showing any numbers.....the trailer brakes seemed to work but we were concerned. A quick call to Uwe helped with a brake check but he suggested we stop in Ft. Collins to see Luke (Chromehome) here on the forums. We put in a call and Luke agreed to meet with us and recommended the KOA Lakeside RV Park in Ft. Collins. The location worked for us as we had business in Denver and Cheyenne so we were pretty centrally located and not far from Luke has his Airstream repair business.

Luckily we had a few days to check things out and this morning we were on the road again.....we drove away and a few miles later, we hear someone call Ed's name (PA system).....It was Luke and I had forgotten to lock the door......we were driving down the road with the door open......yikes....luckily, I don't think we did any damage to the door.....but our thanks to Luke for being available and willing to work on our issues.....(he seemed to be in the right place at the right time for us)

We highly recommend Luke (Chromehome) for any Airstream issues you might have. If you need a number, you can pm me.

Paula, we are at the Pueblo KOA for another night and then to Golden and Dakota Ridge RV Park. Lots of severe thunderstorms and flood advisories north of Colorado Springs tonight. I hope you don't get any hail—Denver to Ft. Collins is one of the worst areas in the country for hail.

It really rained hard here last night

We are backed up to what looks like a storm channel in the G arden of the Gods cg.i was worried there could be a flash flood, combined with my worry about hail made for a fitful night. We have two more nights here before heading to ok city. Was hoping to have wonderful weather before heading east. Luckily our trip from ft collins was uneventful.

The spectacular lightning makes bicycle riding a little iffy. Sorry to miss you. My husband wanted to see the Carmichael Training systems training facility here in co springs and I want to see Salida. Paula

Luke fixing stuff

We had a serious leak over the seat in the dinette that was revealed thanks to the daily thunderstorms we experienced in Ft. Collins. I was able to observe the place where the water was coming in, which varied depending upon whether the vista view window cover was open or closed....that led Luke to check the awning rail and viola, he could see a hole there that he was able to fill with vulcrum using a popcicle stick.......honestly....I kid you not....I don't want to reveal too much to reveal Luke's secrets but we could have caulked the windows from here to dooms day and it would not have stopped the leak....after last night's deluge we know that that hole was plugged.....here is a photo

Cheyenne, a very friendly town

Ed gave a CLE talk about law practice management issues to the Wyoming Bar Association on Monday. It was an easy drive from Ft. Collins except for the thunderstorm dumping on us....here are a few photos....the thunderstorm we were driving into on I-25, The State Capitol of Wyoming, the rainbow, and the bison herd on the wall of the Holiday Inn where the meeting was. We also found that Cheyenne has a 3 acre dog park.....that's right, 3 acres....I was afraid we wouldn't be able to find Bandit when we were ready to leave.....We loved our visit to Cheyenne.....would love to return for Frontier Days....

Did you know that Wyoming was the first state of the Union to grant woment the right to vote as well as the right to serve on juries and hold public office? Also construction of the Capitol began in 1886.

More thunderstorms today in Colo. Springs and here just down the road. We all fear hail. Rained hard last night and lots of lightning.

I'm really glad I don't have to think about law office management anymore.

Ed is getting a bike ride in before the afternoon showers......which is when we plan on doing a jeep tour of the Garden of the Gods....because they allow us to take Bandit, our Boxer.

I can understand that you're glad about not having to think about law office management but that is Ed's thing......the Airstream is mine so we have figured out a way to marry the two.....that is the purpose of this trip across the country....I would be happy to stay in the west......Ed wanted to get to Boston but we are now thinking Cleveland and Detroit are as far east as we are going to go. We need to be home by mid September.

Thinking about stopping in Jackson Center....wonder if we can bring our rebuilt AS there? We are not exactly Vintage anymore except on the outside.....hmmmmm.....it seems to be on the way from St. Louis to Cleveland. paula

JC will welcome you regardless of how the interior looks—just bring money.

Looks like your trip is tax deductible. If I were writing a book about our travels, maybe that would be tax deductible too, except I'm too lazy to write a book.

Tax deductible

Yes, it is but that is not the primary purpose of the trip. Ed has had a dream of doing a national speaking tour for years.......he has written over 13 books on law practice management and coaches attorneys on how to run their law practices.....for several years now......so he got a couple of sponsors (Fijitsu Scanners and Lexis Nexis) and the next thing we were on the road......

So this trip is not my idea of an Airstream trip but after I got over kicking and screaming we are actualy having some fun.....Uwe designed our trailer to be a working trailer with a computer desk and inverter outlets for charging our computers and phones.....all of that works pretty well. The most challenging thing we have had is cell phone access and wifi/Verizon phone card especially in the west.....not sure how it will be in the mid west.....(we also have a portable Fijitsu scanner, HP portable color printer, and a Canon flatbed scanner--for my genealogy photos mainly)

For instance, at this campground, I cannot access the wifi at all but Ed can on his laptop....so I am using the Verizon card....Ed has an Iphone (AT&T) and I have a Verizon Droid.....on the whole my phone works better than his. He also has a Verizon Galaxy Tab.....so we have various ways of staying connected which is imperative for this kind of a trip-but is not guaranteed.

Also, many of my photos are taken from the passenger seat because sometimes we don't have time to stop and smell the roses.....but it is an adventure and a lot easier than being in a covered wagon....and as long as we can dodge the hail.....well it is all about the journey and not the destination.......paula

PS: here is a pic that shows us in working mode.....not exactly neatenized....and Ed is using the dinette instead of his desk on the left.

Thanks to Luke for his excellent work. He's an amazingly talented technician. We work together each year at the Vintage Restoration Rally in Albuquerque, and I must say it is pure joy to collaborate with Luke.

We are now cooking in Oklahoma City

We did the Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak Highway in Colorado Springs.

We then headed to Dodge City, KS on our way to Oklahoma City....we were there for the record high of 108........the town was interesting....campground not so much......so we headed out of Dodge as soon as we could and made it to the Twin Fountains RV Park in OKC...much friendlier RV park....still hot...as we work to keep cool.....dog is allowed in the reception TV room.....

Collector Car and trailer was at a hotel in Dodge City.
Statue is Wyatt Earp, Dodge City Lawman
Lonely road in Kansas....we stayed on US Highways and they were deserted, and in far better repair than the interstate highways....we made the mistake of getting on I-40 east of OKC.....we got off at the next exit and took local roads....the interstates beat our trailer to death....
