If I recall correctly you’re towing with a F150. If so, how is it performing?

The map looks great, the sights you've seen. Safe travels.

Our F150 with 3.5L eco boost is performing great. We are averaging 12.5 mpg. Love this truck.

OMG what an awesome trip!

What has been the most outstanding part of the trip? Any things you didn't expect?

Thanks for sharing!

Hi folks-
We are heading to Nashville on or around 22 Oct. We appreciate any recommendations on a campground close to the city.

Thanks,

Randy

The most outstanding, probably the weather. Since leaving Portland OR on 17 Aug, we have experienced only 2 days of steady rain. That said, Jackson Wy, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Montreal, fall foliage in New England, Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Ma, the Museums of Philadelphia and DC, Gettysburg, Skyline Drive, The Biltmore, finally visiting our newly engaged son and his fiancé in Pinehurst NC. All outstanding. Charleston and Savannah next.

Check out the Nashville KOA on Music City Drive. We recently stayed there 4 nights. It's pricey, but you're camping in Nashville. Sites are relatively spacious for a KOA, and we enjoyed our stay.

You're also within super-easy reach of Grand Ole Opry if that's something you'd like to do. They have daily shuttles to the Honky Tonk area for $10, and Grey Line stops by to pick you up if you want some of their tours. We had dinner at "Cock of the Walk" right outside the campground. Deliberately rustic place, very limited menu. Nothing for vegetarians, really. The grilled catfish was particularly good, however.

Oh, and it's within minutes of the Opry Mills Mall in case you need to hit Bass Pro Shops for some additional outdoor gear, or drop / break your phone and need a quick repair like yours truly did.

There also are two other RV Parks next door to this one, so you have your pick of 3 different places.

We're currently in Gatlinburg, TN, at Twin Creeks RV Park on 321. It's a decent spot if you want to visit this little tourist trap town and the Smokies, though you will hear a bit of highway noise despite their claims of burbling creeks. Grocery store pretty much right across the street, decent breakfast place within a couple of miles (Flapjack's pancake house), and very good BBQ in town at Bennet's Pit Barbecue

Thanks! I noticed the Tennessee Fairgrounds offers campsites. Has anyone experienced?

Wow! What an amazing trip. We're still in FL, and will be until just after Thanksgiving. Then we head west again.

We're paying close attention to your route, though we may have to fade to the south to avoid snow/ice by the time we get there. I noticed that in Flagstaff tonight they are predicting a low of 28F, so stay warm and disconnect those water and sewer hoses overnight.

Actually, Rocinante was Don Quixote's horse from Cervantes, thence Steinbeck's appropriation of the name....not to be a jerk/pedant, but I stole the name for my sailboat. Safe travels.

Thanks for the Nashville KOA recommendation. We had a great time in Nashville. We are currently at Goulding’s in Monument Valley UT; nice park with Sedona-like beauty. Bryce tomorrow.

Awesome! The elevation is high, so watch the weather forecast for potential (er, um, quite likely) freezing overnight. Even with low temps I think you'll be OK as long as you disconnect water / sewer lines and run your propane heat. If you're already camping winterized, then no worries anyway.

We've camped winterized with Rocinante before. We call her "our tin tent" when we do that. Propane heat keeps her just warm enough inside, we don't have to worry about maintaining enough heat to keep lines and tanks from freezing, and we depend on the campground for anything that requires water. A bit less glampy than usual in an Airstream, but it works!

Be sure to hike down into the canyon if you have time and weather permits. Sunrise and Sunset point are nice opportunities to walk right down in there via Navajo Loop and/or Queen's Garden. It's breathtaking in more ways than one (quite steep at times, haha), but we're eager to do those walks next time we are at Bryce.
