We completed our first official rally this past weekend and had a great time. Met a lot of interesting people and learned a lot of interesting new things. It is wonderful to be able to see so many different models, new & vintage.
We won the flamingo award for our originality in the pink (neon) flamingo. This was a nice little gadget we got at a local store for $20. Nice little unit stands about 18” tall and is powered by 12 volts but is actually a neon lamp. Because it only draws 6 watts I couldn’t resist making it light from the trailer batteries. Left it on all night until we went to bed. I hope Tesla would be amused to see the creative ways we put his concepts to use.
We brought out our telescope (Lolita) to show what we could of Mars because it is close now and excellent viewing. Many at the rally were happy to just be able to look at the moon so everything else was a bonus. We observed until the clouds came in and it was time to put Lolita away.
Awoke to the sound of metal expanding on Sunday morning oddly enough shortly after sunrise (who would have thought). It is a most unusual sound. Everything worked perfectly. Hubs ran cool, stove worked, etc. Only thing we can’t figure out is a smell that is either propane leaking ( I doubt) or the gray water tank via a faulty vacuum breaker. Either way it needs to be investigated.
It is nice to be able to cook in our little kitchen. Breakfast was a real treat to say the least. The fridge (which gave us so much trouble before) seemed to be on its best behavior. Had it dialed down to 2 and still it kept everything at 34 degrees – nothing in the fridge froze and the vodka was icy cold!!
of course what would a trip be without mimosa’s in the morning.
Thanks go out to all in the Sierra Nevada Group who made us feel welcome.
Very nice! Love the Flamingo!
Man that is a cool Telescope too! Looks like you had fun!

Mimosas! I guess that is another thing to pack for the next rally. Our last boondock the lettuce froze. The fridge on propane is great for alcohol, bad for veggies.
Oh yeah...Nice sweatshirt. Go Dawgs! We finally won a game!
Those pancakes sure look good! Got any Mrs. Butterworth's syrup and butter to go along with them? Oh no, hungry again.

David,
What do you mean Mrs. Butterworth's? The best is PowerWagon Syrup by Moose Creek Maple Products in Schroon Lake, NY. Go here: http://www.dodgepowerwagon.com/wwwboard/maplesyrup.html
Absolutely the best, and if you order some tell Paul I said hi.
Bill

As to the parking, everybody packed into the firm ground areas, leaving only the soft sandy ground for us latecomers. Lesson... First-timers should learn to get there early to get a good spot.
But actually, we had a great spot with a great view.
Well one thing is for sure - we NEVER are the first to leave. In fact we are always the last to leave, but happily so. This is true for this trip. We spent at least an hour in solitude and it so nice to do that after a trip like this. Gives one quiet time to reflect on the past adventures.
