Ouch! Trashed 310 Moho
Got rear-ended coming south, not sure if "Bess" can be repaired. Anyone have a 310 gas or diesel for sale in the SW? We have a Tracker that can be towed. We've had Bess for 20+ years, but we think it's time if she's trashed to buy another one of those old dears. We'll take her in to Phoenix or Tucson and get the word; parts will be the problem. All us full timers need a spare, anyone got one? Send me a PM or post on this thread and I'll get ahold of you. Thanks, M

I know of one here in Mississippi. I looks abandoned in the rural part of the county. I can make an effort to send you a picture and see if it's something you want to pursue. I've been looking at it as a possible salvage and sale but if you want to call the guy then I can facilitate. I have no clue if he knows what he has. I have no intention on telling him anything but give him your contact if you want.
I can send a pic via my iPhone today on the way home - in about an hour. Send me your contact number at 228-342-3018 and I'll send the photos.

Ouch is right! What hit you?
Depending on what's damaged inside the sheet metal in your photos, a good sheet metal mechanic should be able to craft a neatly-done patch over that gash and make it look pretty good. Won't be original, but could look good if there's not too much compound curve in that panel. If the panel curves only one way, the entire thing could be replaced and she'd look like new.
See if you can get an opinion from Aerowood.
Also, check the local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA.org) and see if there's any of those folks who'd be willing to help you out. They build airplanes for fun, and most of their products are works of art.

Good advice, but we still need a place to stay as Bess gets her make-over. That's why we think another coach to live in is the answer. We love 310s. It's the ABS rear fairing we're having trouble finding.

The faring could be repaired. (I.e. Reconstructed)
It would take time, but it could be done.

Michael,
where is this one located at? A friend at work told me about a old motorhome in the kiln area on a “private” junkyard on the road to picayune.. is this the one?

Ouch! Trashed 310 Mo/ho
Yep, must be it - only one I know of. About 8 miles on right when you turn off 603 on 43 to Picayune. Can't miss it. It's on the road side.
It's been open to the environment for 2+ years. Sad. Hard parts and skin including a lot of glass looks good. The rest is trash.

Mike,
i would consider finding a temporary place to stay while your MH is repaired.. since you stated you own it for over 20 years, you know here inside and out. You know all little problems, if any that she might have. If you purchase another Mh, you would have to start over ..
can you post some additional pictures to see the overall damage? how bad is the inside?

Mike,
Sorry to hear about your accident! If you come to Mississippi to look at it we are more than happy to have you stay here as long as you need. I live in the area of Picayune as well and more then happy to go with the others and get what ever parts off it you want if the owner is willing to sell/scrap. I am sure I could use some stuff out of it as well.
I would offer to let you stay in the moho but you have enough issues with out seeing our disaster. Although it might make you feel a whole lot better about the condition of your 310!

Yeah that bites. I'd drive my 310 down to you but it could be difficult getting through Buffalo and the 6+ feet of snow they have had. Buffalo is only 2 hrs south of me and I only have 4 or so inches of the white stuff....thank God
Inland RV has fibreglass banana wraps for MoHo's. This link shows front but maybe they have, or know of someone that does rear?
http://www.inlandrv.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=49
Pretty cool 310 replacement and check out the check plate front banana wraps.....could be an option to fab up something different? Your insurance company maybe open to that option.

Mike.
That repair, while expensive, would be a peice of cake, for an Airstream shop that has been around for a while.
We did repairs like that all the time, but we now are just a parts source.

We've had twenty years with Bess, but my time finally came:We got trashed , but not mechanical. Went to Las Cruces the other day to look at a 300,passed. Heard of a 310 that needed TLC, passed. Still looking and hoping the old girl can be patched-up in Phoenix.

I've patched ABS fairings on light aircraft with old fashioned "dope and fabric" (No, not that kind of dope.). Done right and sanded smooth, no one can find the repair.
Yours would be quite a project, but could be done with patience and some skill with jigsaw puzzles.
A good aircraft sheet metal mechanic could have a respectable patch on that tear in a couple days time. It's even easier than aircraft repair, because one can use Olympic rivets and such on an Airstream. Those wouldn't be legal on an airplane.

Sorry to hear about Bess. That's a situation I hope I never encounter. Good luck in your search for parts and I hope you can save her.
I'm not sure that MH would help you. Looking at the front of it and the window type makes me think it was a TT put onto a truck or bus chassis. Also note the "belly pan" part in photos.

O U C H !!! I feel for you...there was a moho in Eloy several years ago...engine pulled from the front...diesel?...might have been a 310...parked in front of a repair shop on a major side street perpendicular to IH 10...
Also remember a moho in Tucson at a storage yard east of Prince on IH 10. And, lastly, check with Oasis in Tucson...they might have something...
Ken in Tucson might be a good contact(4CU). mike
