HI there-
We have a cabin in Agness, Oregon on the Rogue River and are very familiar with the coast. At Gold Beach, 30 miles north of Brookings you can take Jerry's Flat Road on the south side of the bridge, then go up that road parallel to the Rogue River for 36 miles and get to the Agness RV Park. It is owned by Barb and Harry Holdroff and it is a very nice park right on the Rogue River with full hook ups for 90 RV's. It is rarely full except for holiday week ends and during the fishing season of August and September.
Happy trails! Ginny and Ed

All of the above are great recommendations, especially the state parks- one campground I did not see mentioned is Sea and Sand RV Park about 11 miles south of Lincoln City. It has a fair number of sites right on the ocean, terraced so there are no bad views. Our club, Unit 90 out of Portland has rallied there several times.

As to a restaurant, whenever we stay at Sea and Sand or Beverly Beach we make a point of eating at Tidal Raves restaurant ( tidalraves.com ) just north of Depoe Bay; good food and a great ocean view.

Key word for the coast in summer: RESERVATION!

WOW, Thanks to everyone for their invaluable information. I'm grateful and overwhelmed by the great recommendations. I have been plotting and attaching memos into my google maps routes to make sure I don't miss anything. I confirmed with the Boss and she concurs that we need to add couple more stay days on the Oregon Coast just the revel in the atmosphere. I really want to take the time to shoot photos of the coast, surf, and mountains and unique archetecture. If you think of any other points of interest or places to eat, please feel free to post them.

If you want Architecture, be sure to stop into Arcata, North of SanFrancisco and tour the beautiful Victorian homes and other buildings.

If you have a smart phone get the free App "RV parks". It has all the information you need to find any CG, including state parks. It is by far the best RV App I have seen or used, and you can't beet the price!

Thanks for the post, and welcome to the forum! I have always wanted to see the Rogue, and this location fits the bill. Hmmm, 36 miles up from the coast, and I assume that this road dead-ends somewhere east of Agness?

From what I can make out from the map, this area puts the "wild" back into wilderness . . .

Nice!

Thanks again,

Peter

Oregon Coast

The road is a good one all along the way. We camp at Honeyman State Park near Florence Oregon. It is a big park, and a wonderful place, with lots to do. Loops A and B are our preferred loops, as there are fewer ATV's in those loops. Reserve a spot online. There is also a state park near Tillamook; I want to say Cape Disappointment, but I am not sure! It is situated right off the beach, where as Honeyman is not. Have fun! Happy camping!

We just completed n/b CA1 The driving and traffic were challenges. Steep grades, narrow roads and decreasing radius switch backs. Towing a 25 Flying Cloud. Just go slow and use the many pull outs to let traffic pass.Glad we did it.
Generally found no problem camping in state parks

What a wonderful thread, you all make me proud to be a part of this. I also love this road and am so ready to do it again. Good luck and take your time, if I go I will plan on 3 weeks to make the trip.

Schedule a stop in Port Orford and eat on the marina dock restaurant operated by a former restaurant chef who just could not stay retired. You may be able to park the night overlooking the bay where you need to walk down to the dock. The Motel that is perched on the cliff is a great option if so desired. Next be sure to stay a few days at Nehalem State Park and get on the beach. It is a very favorite spot of mine. The next place up the coast is Cannon Beach, also a must walk on the beach adventure. It takes a long time to travel the coast hyway. If you travel more than 150 miles a day you are missing too much.

Beachside is our favorite and killer Mexican Food in Waldport (at the marina…not on Hwy 1). When I mention Beachside to locals, so often is the remark…that’s the place that Gramma & Grampa always took us. A small, quiet family campground, even on Labor Day, the 10 or so miles of beach from Yachats to Waldport with Beachside in the middle is yours….and dog friendy! Someone mentioned Tillicum…almost adjacent, but no showers/ele etc. Very nice. Another favorite is Sunset Bay. Bucket list: Harris Beach, Cape Blanco (no resies), Umpqua Lighthouse SP & Beverly Beach.

The pics are of Beachside Labor Day 2014. BS is midway between Yachats & Waldport and about a 5 mile walk on the beach (each way) if you're in shape. It was 81 that day!!!!
