Going to Crater? Use the South Entrance it is much closer to the campground, which is awesome and will probably have walk up availability. The North brings you right over the rim. We went that way last year with out Overlander, but I prefer not to do it again.

Traveling from the coast to the valley, avoid Hwy 34 from Waldport to Corvallis. Instead use 128 from Florence to Eugene, Hwy 18 out of Lincoln City, Hwy 26 out of Sea Side to Portland, or go all the way to Astoria and use Hwy 30. If you do end up using Hwy 30, note that you can use I5 on the Washington side from Longview to Portland to save time.

There are a lot of steep roads, that access a whole lot of cool areas in the Blue Mountains between Pendleton and John Day. Speaking of one of my home towns, in John Day there is the Kam Wah Chang museums which is flat amazing.

Cabbage Hill is a monster between Pendleton and La Grand.

The easiest route to see the Gorge and then get to Central OR is Hwy 97.

The Portland Zoo is great. Timberline Lodge. I could ramble on and on about my state.

Lastly, if you go swimming, just note the water is cold, rivers, lakes, the ocean, it is all cold and there are always a handful of tragic swimming accidents this time of year.

Give me a call if you have any Questions. 503.508.3563

Mike

I will be tracking this thread as we are headed to Oregon in the fall. Looking at taking Hwy 26 west.

Sorry I goofed. It is 126 from Florence to Eugene. also both 99W and 99E are slower routes than I5 l, but much more pleasant--as long as you are not stuck in Dundee traffic.

Go through Dundee anyway, and stop! It is one of the best wine tasting destinations on the west coast.

Dundee is great. So too is its big sister Newberg. If you are anywhere close to Independence tomorrow, we have the best fireworks

Exclamation

Please do yourself a big favor and do NOT stay in the Sea and Sand RV Park in Depoe Bay. They're running an organized scam (in my humble opinion, of course) which involves picking on certain people and then scaring slash intimidating them into leaving early - and of course, no refunds.

The park manager and Steve the "maintenance man" slash enforcer are the major actors. The park is now owned by a trust, so these folks are getting away with it.
