OR to Florida Hee Haw

...Think, it’s a wonderful fife…

So it's my first travel log so here goes. Trying not to make it too complicated but it’s a 3 month trip (our longest to date) to Key West via Pho, San Antonio & College Station, TX, then up to Atlanta, the Carolina’s and back thru Washington MO before heading home. 3 months and about 10,000

D1: Corning @ Trolling Hills Casino. Booked I presume due to the Redding and Paradise fire evacuees.
D2: Tehachapi @ Mt Valley RV park…nice basic spot…it was 25degrees at 4000’ that night and my ears would not clear : ( I hear Brite Lake is very nice too)
D3 Avi Resort and Casino (Ft Mojave on the NV side) site 123 backed up the 17th green and 18th Tee. Same spot as last year.
D4,5,6,7 Time for a layover. Goodyear TV Resort @ Destiny RV Resort. Also a repeat stay. Love this place. Close to town but outside the Pho metro area….so a little slower : )
D8: Wilcox KOA. Completely new or a total rehab. Nice, great staff and incredible Wi-Fi (5LTE)
D9: Van Horn @ Mt View RV Park. Basic but nice and clean. Safe to as the resident sheriff lives there.
D10, 11,12: Fredericksburg, TX (Hill country) a German enclave and thinking great bier and authentic German food. Arrived today but staying 3 day. Lots of wineries too. Reminds me of Healdsburg in the 80’s…just getting started.

Heading for San Antonio in a few days for the Alamo and River Walk It may be a challenge with 13 year old dog (my avatar) with her 2 year old sister. Somewhat deaf & blind, but is responding well to CDB oil but they both travel very well. Just a little complicated when sightseeing...the Alamo will be our first test

Glad the trip is going well, Bob. Great that the snows have stayed north of you. Looks like the temps to Key West will be OK with little risk of frost:

[See the slider at the top right to fast forward.]

Have fun in San Antonio.

Peter, thanks for the weather link and report. Clear and crisp in FGB and expecting the same in SA tomorrow. WooHoo, the Alamo. Some quick research showed it is not NSP but state non profit so i suspect is open😁

Looks like you're getting your share of the snow.

Bob.....looks like you are having a great trip. So glad you are out on the road enjoying everything!

Do the dogs stay in a kennel (in the AS) while you are out?

Had a great lunch at the Auslander...thevsnitchel was huge and went well with the red cabbage, spatzel and HB bier. Spent most of the day st the national museum of the pacific war. Totally immersed. Didn't know that Chester Nimitz was a homegrown boy. Lots of history in this place museum...a must see.

Decided to pass on the "i don't give a schnitzel" t shirt...terrible brown color

Day 12...San Antonio...visited the alamo and walked the river. Awesome lunch at the Iron Cactus...texas meatloaf...sirloin, chorizo and bacon. Low 40-50's today. Staying at travlers world rvpark. Close to town and the same company as wine country rv in Paso robles where we hsve stayed on numerous occasions.

Layover tomorrow D13, while a new CC arrives express. Just what i wanted to deal with while otr

That meatloaf sure sounds good! Are you going to have time to take in New Orleans’ cuisine going east? The Florida panhandle has some great beaches, but not sure how they are after all the hurricanes in 2017.

Thanks for the update.

Bob, no pictures? We have to have pictures! Will you be going up to Washington DC? If so, would like to know CG where you are staying.
Have a great trip

We're passing on NO...been there, but hope to find the cuisine along that stretch of La etc coast otr to Fl.

Picutres, i still need to do the donation and just haven't gotten around to it. Spending a lot of time on the CC fiasco. Also to a lesser extent, watching data as having issue with Verizon's CS re the jetpack. Hope to get that on track soon.

Stopping the NB travel at the Carolinas. Saving DC for another trip...maybe in the fall, heading for ME to my wife's bro.

Talking

!Arrived in College Station today via New Braunfels and a touch/go in Jonestown (austin). Took the blue highway back roads...nice change.

Taking in the Bush41 library tomorrow. Friday we're heading towards new iberia, la and the Audubon sanctuary. Last time we didn't have time after the tabasco tour, aside from the 6 inches of rain in 2hrs. It never rains in Autzen Stadium Hoping for some sunshine this time. The sun hat and flip flops are gathering dust.

Glad you enjoyed Fredericksburg. We have a population of 10,000 during the week and on weekends it’s 40,000. I see a lot of Airstreams spending the night here and a few rallies during the year. In Spring we’ll be leaving here and heading to Pismo with a stop in Tehachapi. Safe travels, Bubba

Thanks for the update, Bob. Dust off the flip-flops for the MS/AL Gulf Coast, and the Florida panhandle! FWIW we stayed here a long time ago, just east of Pensacola, and not too far off I-10:

Not sure what the coast is like after all the storms a year ago, but chances are good that they have re-built everything.

Have fun!

Bubbz, thanks. Are you the gentleman we met at the rv park? It sas greag to talk to you. We did have a great time there. Loved the town and the area...reminds me a lot of Paso Robles, wine. beer, great food and rolling hills covered with live oaks.

You might try Brite Lake in Tehachapi. We stayed at Mt Valley but would go with BL next time. Not sure of route but Hwy 46 from 99 thru Chalone is a great road to get to 101

Safe journey

Bob, don’t think it was me you talked to in Fredericksburg. My wife gets on me about bothering people I see in Airstreams. We will check out those campgrounds in Tehachapi. Let us know the next time you’re through and we’ll discuss over an Altstadt. Thanks

Heading out of College Station, TX and slipped the Nilsson CD in (Best of). Seemed to fit.

Unfortunately the Bush 41 Library visit was short as it was closed except for the rotunda, grave site and gift shop. At least we were able to sign the condolences book. Pulled into New Iberia today hopefully ahead of the colds spell. Tomorrow Tabasco .

Thanks for the update. Too bad about the federal shutdown affecting the Bush Library. Guess it will also influence your choice of spots to visit . . . . . . at least the country is big with plenty to see!

Here's hoping the weather cooperates for your Audubon Sanctuary visit . . . looks amazing:

http://la.audubon.org/conversation/p...life-sanctuary

Interesting video near the top there.

Hope you find some nice campgrounds and dining, now that you will be spending more time along the Gulf Coast.

Happy Trails!

Peter

PS -- Does that CD have Let The Good Times Roll? Sail Away?

Yee Ha!
