Ooops!!

This seems like something that would be on I Love Lucy, but unfortunately, I am playing the role of Lucy. We are packed and ready to head to Quebec for a week and I just realized my passport expired. Ouch.

We are looking for a place within 12 hours drive of DC that has good campgrounds, fun things to do, and temperatures less than 90 degrees.

All suggestions are welcome as we are scrambling to reroute our trip.

Thanks

It all depends on your idea of fun things to do. I would recommend Holmes county Ohio. Very large Amish community, beautifully country side, many Amish shops, and lots of good Amish food. It is south of Cleveland and within your 12 hour driving range.

How about a trip straight up 95 to Acadia Nat'l Park in Maine? End of season - less crowded, and cool.

If you like traveling slowly and enjoying the scenery you might try the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are many options of things to do along the way, from winery or brewery tours, golf, historic sites, wildlife viewing, hiking, canoeing, music, crafts, shopping, etc. I like them, but the NPS campgrounds do not have full hookups, though there is always another option nearby. This time of year, in the NC portion of the parkway, it will usually be in the 70's during the day and 50's at night, though it has been cooler than normal for the last few weeks. I hear Virginia Highland Haven is a good place to stay, and it's an easy one day drive from you. Three of my favorite locations to visit along the BRP are the areas of Blowing Rock, Asheville, and Brevard.

Thank you!

Thanks for all the suggestions. We ended up heading to Knoxville, TN then went onto Nashville for several days, and Lexington, KY on the way back. Great trip.
