salt river canyon

it was raining as we left show low after a plesant stay at the fool hill...the drive down us 60 into the salt river canyon is more than spectacular...in a gentle rain it is more than that...from show low to globe is the most beautiful scenery imaginable...and a fun road to drive to boot...

from globe on into apache junction...is fairly impressive as well

we are now at lost dutchman state park...set up with a gentle rain falling on the desert.......

cain't get no better..... butit aways seems too

Enjoy Lost Dutchman! Roper Lake is a nice park...there's a nice man-made lake and two loops of electric/water hookups...some sites are reservable (you have to reserve 2 weeks in advance min), some are first come first serve. We go there as often as we can, but it seems that it is getting busier these days. The last time we were there was over spring break and we had to stay in the group dry camping area, which is not nearly as nice...its 120 miles from Tucson.

You may want to take a day trip up 366 before you drag your trailer up there ... that's the road that goes up Mt Graham and it is steep, narrow, no guard rails, hairpins, etc. We drove a small motor home up to the first campground one time just to see what was up and haven't been back ... might try it with the Bambi one day but I will drive up there first to see how it is again before that happens.

You are gettin' around...that's for sure!

roper lake

i called roper yesterday to check on reservations and they said the park was empty...i am going to be there saturday...they said come on,,,,

That was the plan for roper...park there and explore the swift trail...that is our modus operandi......park and explore......

like the beach boys... "Get around round, round I get around.. From town to town I get around"

Overall nice place.

Patagonia SP, great during the week, not so much on Fri-Sat-Sun.
We visited last year, overall, nice place.
Nice hiking, sunsets and paddles. Lots of birds, fish...see our pics. Weekend crowd was a bit heavy on the radios , kids and numbers. May be different this time of year though.
Have a nice meal at the Velvet Elvis in Patagonia...unique is the word.

apache trail/lost dutchman

lost dutchman is really a nice place...great scenery...great trails..they are upgradng half the park to elec/water.....

what is the deal with the apache trail...there is a sign that says at mile marker 222 it has been closed since and wll reopen in 2011...road past tortilla flat i s great ..until it isn't...

why is it not paved to roosevelt lake??

the campground at tortilla flat looks nice.....water and sewer ...and no electricity?????

what about the camground at the marina????...does it have the pox or something...right on the lake ...full hookup....deserted

I believe that the road scares folks off. I have driven the road on past Torilla Flat and it is pretty scary. The road was built to haul materials to the Roosevelt Dam site and was originally a mule train road it would be a major construction project to pave the road. Secondly, it does have some historic significance, would be a shame to get rid of it. I think the lake side cg gets more use in the summer during boating season.

We have camped several times at Patagonia Lake State Park...We like it. We have mostly been there in the late fall or winter... It can still getbusy in the winter because of the winter visitors and the birders...there is a marina and you can rent boats and paddlers... a small store and gas and propane for sale....all concessions. There are electric and water hookups in once are and a large dry camping area by the beach. There are new showers and bathrooms as well.

I wish the road from Apache Junction to Roosevelt Lake was improved and paves...it would be a great drive. We have camped at Canyon Lake (pre-Airstream)...it's abog boatin destination so it's kind quiet in the winter... The "sites" are parking lot style...you back into them to the curb side by side and your hookups and picnic table, etc are on the other side of the curb..there is a nice grassy area along the lake... It's an OK place if it's not to busy and you can put somespace between you and your neighbors. They have steam boat tours, too. It's privately operated I believe....or a maybe a concession.

You're hitting the high points!

See you at Picacho!

Roper Lake

It is a beautiful park...surrounded by beautiful mountains...the Pinealeas, i believe...

we took the trip up the swift trail, rte 366...up around 9000ft there is plenty of snow ...it is a beautiful drive...35 miles to riggs lake...there are campgrounds about half way up that are accessible for a 25ft stream....would be nice...

Hey! We know exactly which site you camped in at Roper...we've stayed in that site as well...nice place, eh?? I'll talk to you about Mt Graham at NY's and see what you think...it would be a great place to go in the summer when it's really hot in the valley...

Soon! Enjoy the rest of your trip to Picacho!

Watch out for flash floods....even on major hiways. Reports todays are grim for that part of Arizona......but what do I know? I'm in Texas and it was 86 deg. here yesterday. I am vicariously following your adventure.

Good morning

We are in Quartzsite. Lots of rain late yesterday but the sun is shining today. We are on BLM land and will be here until Dec 26. Loving the area. On our way to the Rose Parade rally.

Final Approach

we spent Christmas at Lake Patagonia, the state park....a great place...explored Nogales and the surrounding areas....just beautiful country. Moved to Catalina state park this morning...beautiful views of the mountains in a very urban setting. while in Benson we visited Bisbee and had lunch at the market, visited Shady dell...the airstream motel and went to the chirichua national monument, ( where i, like a dummie left my camera back at the stream) but it is an escuse to go back...it is an amazing place...a must see!!!!
