On the road again.

Well my farewell tour is just about over and I will be heading west Starting in the morning.
First stop Central PA to visit with friends. The next stop will be upper Ohio for the weekend with "my big sister".
Then it is on to the Factory for a tour and some minor repairs..... Bummer.
Once I leave there I will be on to another friends house in eastern Iowa. Never driven in Iowa. After that I will see how far a day gets me. In a week or two I should be in Missoula.

See all you westerns soon!

I hope you have a great trip. Iowa is nice to drive through if your head is in the right place.

Driving through Iowa in April should be great. Think "Abundant." I relish every time we drive through on our way to northern Minnesota. I don't know where you'll be crossing, but we see many family farmsteads, lots of wide tree wind breaks, old farm houses with lilacs, gardens--pretty well ""midwest Rockwell." Have a safe journey. We also love Missoula and all of Montana! ~G

Michelle -

My wife and I will be going to Jackson Center ourselves, arriving late on Monday, to pick up our trailer that's been there for repairs. Maybe we'll see you if you're staying in one of their "guest suites" over night.

We'll be heading to Montana ourselves, but not until mid-June. I wish we were going there sooner. (Yesterday, I saw the weather forecast for Livingston, MT - our first stop for the month of July - and it looked like at least some rain every day for 10 days straight.)

Have a safe journey and an enjoyable adventure!

John

SE Iowa is the bomb!

Hellp Cats....

SE Iowa is GREAT!!! There are lost of cool things to see. The Waterfront in Clinton, Davenport and so forth. There a MILLION things to do in the DeWitt are - Maqoquetta (sp) caves, there are at least 3 zillion working dairy farms/ butcher shops that would love to give tours, there are local and civic events in EVERY town that is ANYWHERE near your destination. Check out the heartland!!!!!!!!!!!! Every chance you get!!!

Heck, if all else fails there is still a "Drive-in Movie" that is shown north on the highway, of DeWitt. A last of a sadly dying breed. Plus it is like $3 per person - trunk anyone!? Can you say folding chairs, fun and fellowship!? Bring some popcorn and you will be the cat's meow!!!!!

My children still howl with laughter and hilarity over seeing "Madagascar" in that screen - it is quoted DAILY!!!!! And they saw it on the drive in screen in Iowa!

That and they still comment about the '3 men' - four actually! Mt Rushmore! They will NEVER forget that!!! I can assure you all...

Just a few thoughts since that area in Iowa is so near and dear to my heart as I visited and grew up as a young man....!!!!!!!! Have MANY FOND memeories that take me back there in my minds eye, on many an occation! Gone back phsically to visit, but there is still that great memory connection that serves!

See the folks back in the day.....!!!!!!!! My uncle 'Heinz' was the BOMB!!!!! I MISS YOU EVERY DAY, several hundred times!!!

Still miss him EVERY day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace!

Axel

To which we add the lyrics from "The Music Man"

Oh, there's nothing halfway
About the Iowa way to treat you,
When we treat you
Which we may not do at all.
There's an Iowa kind of special
Chip-on-the-shoulder attitude.
We've never been without.
That we recall.
We can be cold
As our falling thermometers in December
If you ask about our weather in July.
And we're so by God stubborn
We could stand touchin' noses
For a week at a time
And never see eye-to-eye.
But what the heck, you're welcome,
Join us at the picnic.
You can eat your fill
Of all the food you bring yourself.
You really ought to give Iowa a try.
Provided you are contrary,
We can be cold
As our falling thermometer in December
If you ask about our weather in July.
And we're so by God stubborn
We can stand touchin' noses
For a week at a time
And never see eye-to-eye.
But we'll give you our shirt
And a back to go with it
If your crops should happen to die.

Farmer:
So, what the heck, you're welcome,
Glad to have you with us.

Farmer and Wife:
Even though we may not ever mention it again.

Townspeople:
You really ought to give Iowa
Hawkeye Iowa
Dubuque, Des
Moines, Davenport, Marshalltown,
Mason City, Keokuk, Ames,
Clear Lake
Ought to give Iowa a try!

With a song...

Jack -

Loved the lyrics! Any others in your musical quiver?

There I go, with a song in my heart and an AS in the rearview mirror.....

Peace

Iowa
Having grown up in SW Iowa, I have fond memories of my youth with all there was to do out of doors. Fishing, camping, hunting, picnics, hiking, stock car races on Friday nights, sports, the list goes on. Did I mention fishing? Thanks for the reminder, Axel, of the drive-in movies. Used to take my dad's work van, park it in the back row and put our lawn chairs on the roof. Now that was a blast!

Have a safe journey Michelle. Don't hurry through Iowa, there's lots to see.

Brad

As a young student in 7th grade music class I had a great music teacher and musician who played the musicals to us all the time. This particular musical, the Music Man had just hit Broadway at the time and was just chock full of things that were ever embedded in my mind. It doesn't take much to get some of this stuff back to active memory! We seem to own almost all of the MGM musical DVD library.
