Olympic Peninsula - Camping Options

My wife and I have spent quite a bit of time on the Peninsula (we live in Seattle), but we’ve done so from the perspective of hiking and staying in cabins and lodges. We don’t have our “RV” eyes yet, so most RV campgrounds have gone unnoticed by us.

Before we just into the purchase of an AS, we want to build a list of relevant campground suitable for a 22’ Sport (the model we’ve been eyeing). We’re curious about full hookup and boon docking destinations as well.

Thanks for any help the community can provide!

Hi

I suspect you already know about the rain

Muddy roads and camp sites add yet another dimension to pulling a trailer.

Yes, we do [emoji846]

We haven’t let the rain stop us with our winter time outings and think we can do the same in some minimal way with an RV.

Hi

All of my memories of the Olympic Peninsula (other than getting on and off the ferry) involve wet / muddy roads or trails through the rainforest. Lots of fun none the less.

Consider the need for keeping the wet and mud out of the trailer before you head out. There's only so much room to hang rain gear and store boots. It's not impossible, but you do need hooks here and there. Some sort of tray for the boots helps a lot.

I've camped there year round and continue to do so, no problem.

Uncle Bob, we're currently going on almost 40 days without rain....just don't spead the news.

The good thing about the rainy season in WA is the lack of tourists in the city and the lack of pretty much all the locals out in the state and national parks. I can’t wait for it to be October again to have those place to (mostly) myself!

With a 22 foot Airstream, pretty much any site will do. It's when you have a 27 foot or long were things get a bit tougher. Make sure to get reservations well in advance.

We head up to ONP from Durango every other August, picking up two grandkids in Graham, WA. So much to enjoy there! So many great campsites!
South Beach at Kalaloch (no reservations, no defined sites) is our favorite ocean front camping, beach hiking and driftwood log exploring.
Hoh Rain Forest for river watching and rainforest hiking .
Sol Duc for hiking and soaking.
Holbuck at Neah Bay (no reservations, undefined sites) for a different beach experience. Complete anarchy but lots of fun.

Safe Travels,
JamuJoe

Ditto on Kalaloch. Spot D25 always looks better with an Airstream in it. I know its not where you're looking but Cougar Rock in Mt Rainier is enjoyable.

Thanks for the tip on Kalaloch. The Cougar Rock in Rainier tip answers my Western Cascades question.

How early do I need to reserve a spot there?

Hi

Can't say it rained on me in Port Townsend. Been there but don't remember rain when I was in town. Of course move a bit and:

https://content.lib.washington.edu/c...-rainfall.html

It gets more than a little damp (on average ... not counting the last 45 days ...).

Again, you could have won a beer on the Port Townsend numbers ...

Not on the Olympic Peninsula, but pretty convenient to Seattle is Fort Casey. Pretty crowded in the summer but fall and winter mid week is wonderful.

Are weekends during fall and winter crowded as well?
