OHIO, What not too miss ?

Beaming back to the Mothership for a visit, wondered if you had any thoughts or ideas about what to see and do in the area......

Looks like we will be heading there in October, so we're interested as well. Somewhere on the forum we saw some restaurant recommendations near the Airstream factory. Hopefully, those posters will update us here.

Never on a Monday ...

Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum, Wapakoneta
Mac-o-Chee Castle and Mac-a-Cheek Chauteau, south of Bellefontaine

BUT, they are closed on Monday. Yes, our free day was Monday, but the drive through the countryside was nice.

Ohio Caverns is another local site south of Bellefontaine, it is open on Monday.

Do not miss the Airstream factory tour, nor a walk around the storage yards surrounding the manufacturing building.

Here's a great place for a hike and picnic if that interests you.

North of Jackson Center on County Road 22 is Gross Woods State Nature Preserve. Gross Woods is managed by the ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves and is one of the least disturbed woods in west-central Ohio. It is also one of the few mixed species swamp forests remaining in this part of Ohio.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is in Canton, and close by in Dover is the Ernest Warther Museum. Warther created the most fantastic wood and ivory carvings, especially of trains. The Smithsonian calls them priceless works of art". Warther Museum & Knives

If you are remotely interested in bicycles, The Bicycle Museum of America is in nearby New Bremen.

Canton and Dover

The Dayton Air Force Museum would be much closer. (Canton is at least 3 hrs. east of JC and Dover is a "fur" piece too.)
Grand Lake St. Mary is a great place to camp if you finish up at JC and want to venture out to another campground besides the TerraPort.
How much of Ohio do you want to see? and which parts?

rgodfrey - here's a link to a great way to spend a day in mid-October just south of Columbus. LOTS to eat, see and do! There is a state park nearby (A W Marion) that has nice sites - electric only.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland is a trip down memory lane...

We always enjoy stopping of in some of the cool little Amish towns quilt shopping too.

You'll be passing through what states to get there? Could be there are strong and reachable recommendations in adjacent states.

I wouldn't want you to miss the world's largest ball of twine in Darwin, Minnesota.

If you are traveling with children the Living Treasures Animal Park in PA is a small, fun animal park. Nice place for a driving break as you can stop and enjoy yourself for a couple of hours.

Planes, bicycles, football and twine ! Who could ask for anything more ? No Children thank you, but we do like animals & nature. The Caverns & Gross Preserve sounds inviting too, that and some shoo-fly pie....... then off for a little rock and rollin' !

We'll let you know what shakes out all the same. Of course, we are looking forward to seeing just how these tin huts go together. Could be helpful one day down the road !
