October trip suggestions

We are trying to plan a two week trip in October (very flexible on the dates) but have not settled on a destination. Don't care if it is a road trip or a fixed destination ,just needs to be dog friendly and have some type of fishing opportunity. Just looking for suggestions and ideas.

If you roll through Southern, MO there is the Branson rally the second weekend in October. There is awesome trout fishing in the area, and lots of activities. You could make a stop in for a couple days.

Thanks for some great suggestions . New York looks like it has some outstanding parks and I think we might head out that way next summer.

Jackson Center. You can take the factory tour, buy lots of Airstream stuff, and meet other Airstream owners.

In the next two weeks, we are hoping to make a trip with our AS to NYC, staying at Liberty Harbor RV park in Jersey City, a 12 min. ferry ride from Wall Street. never been before, but sounds pretty convenient. There was a video about the park on the "long long honeymoon" youtube series.

Just replaced two cracked Alcoa rims on the trailer so we should be set to go. Hoping to receive a tire pressure monitoring system next week.

Have fun wherever you decide on!

Maybe you are like we have been, midwesterners who always went "somewhere else" and missed some of the best of the midwest. Two years ago, we took a fall color drive up the Mississippi River from Missouri, past Iowa and Illinois, to Wisconsin and then into Minnesota, heading on up the North Shore drive through Duluth to Grand Marais where we stayed a week, enjoying the northwoods autumn--mountain ash was a glory of gold and crimson. We sashayed from one side of the river to the other as bridges and small towns and rural landscapes came up on the trip horizon. Seeing the change in the Mississippi as we drove north was enthralling. The drive was relaxing, colorful, romantic even! We recommend it, it's close to home and neatly fills a two week autumn excursion time. You might consider it if you haven't explored the River Road before. ~G

Take a trip around Lake Michigan. Northern Wisconsin and Northern Michigan should be fantastic. We love taking a Great Lakes tour. Porcupine Mountain Wilderness area is a favorite for fall with us.

Lake in the clouds gives you a fantastic overview on a stony crop of miles and miles of forest in autumn color. There are waterfalls and an observation tower. It is 60 miles from one end to the other so you will have plenty to explore. You can even camp right on Lake Superior. So much undeveloped wilderness and boardwalks.

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Ontonagon, Michigan

A few more favorites, Wisconsin has Point Beach, Peninsula, Newport. Michigan had Sleeping Bear Dunes, Taquamenon Falls, Wilderness SP near Mackinaw Bridge.

Starved Rock and Southern Illinois at Giant City were very nice places for fall camping too.

I live about 2½ hours North of Montreal. I will be leaving on October 2, from Mont-Laurier, QC to Saint-Hyacinthe, QC, to visit my Alma Mater and meet with class mate colleagues (I graduated in 1979 - 30 years ago - from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine). From there, I will be heading to Elk Grove Village in Illinois to get an awning installed on my 1977 Argosy Minuet. I have to be there on October 5 for this reason. After this, I will be going to Lafayette, Louisiana to the Festivals Acadiens et Créoles ( http://festivalsacadiens.com/ ). While I am there, I also want to visit a couple of people who live in the area and which I have known a few years ago when I was there at the time of Mardi Gras. I should be staying at the Abbeville RV Park from October 8-12. I then planned to visit New-Orleans for 2-3 days. On my way down there or on my way back, I would like to stop in Memphis and Nashville. Any suggestions?

Elizabethtown, KY - October 16 - 18

If your travels find you going in the direction of Elizabethtown, KY please join us the weekend of October 16 - 18. Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours are performing in Elizabethtown that weekend and you are sure to enjoy the show. Antsy and the band have something for everyone - ballads, folksy, light rock and a wonderful stage presence. I've never found anyone in the audience that did not enjoy the show.
