Ocean View Southern CA RV campgrounds

We live in Colorado and have this dream of waking up in an RV campground in Southern CA and having an ocean view. Is there such a campground?

Yes, if you don't mind crowds and traffic. Central Coast is less crowded but cooler temps and more rain in winter. Plan way in advance if going in summer. This pic was at Carpinteria State Beach.

Bob,

Look here: Find a Park and look for Orange County and San Diego County parks.

El Capitan State Park right on the cliffs north of Santa Barbara (no hookups) or Ocean Mesa RV Park across the road (pricey, but full hookups).

If you travel off season and mid-week, you should have little trouble getting into State Parks all along the California a Coast.

For Southern Cal, you can't beat Malibu Beach RV Park for a view. Be sure to ask for an ocean view site. It's pricey during the summer months, but less so during the off-season. Here's the link:

These are great ideas. I have a list to check out now. For us, it's about a 20 hour drive, so it's a committed trip. Right now, here, it's 23 degrees!

Carlsbad State Beach Campground

Carlsbad State Beach, North San Diego county. Stayed here last week. Almost all sites are on bluff overlooking the Pacific. Very popular so need to book ahead at reserveamerica.com. We live in So Cal, and it doesn't get much better than this. Most are dry sites. Only a few hookups.

San Elijo State Park in Encinitas is a great park with an EXCELLENT taco stand! Bull Taco, don't miss it. I stayed there two years ago, and it was very nice. Encinitas is a nice little town. Close to San Diego.

Also Doheney State Beach at Dana Point. It's small and old but great. Sometimes hard to get into.

We always have to make our reservations 6 months in advance.

Silver Strand state beach is between Coronado island and Imperial Beach, no hookups but it is asphalt with one row of spaces right at the sand.

Sunset Vista is a Huntington Beach city park. Spaces 1-17 are 30ft max, facing the beach. Partial hookups (no sewer). Rez can be made just 3 months in advance. Popular place, open Oct-May. Just south of the Huntington pier. Also Playa Del Rey, LA county park in El Segundo, just south of LAX. These are very urban parks, basically beach parking lots with hookups. Reservations essential.

Can't forget about Crystal Cove ( El Moro campground) in Newport Beach. Great ocean view and nice left point if you surf or SUP.

Just wrapping up 5 days at Chula Vista RV Resort. We are 100' from the bay with a nice park between us. Concrete patio full hook ups very clean.

We walked over to the marina yesterday an wound up spending most of the day on a replica tall ship called "The Bill Of Rights". It is parked in Chula Vista Marina. Just look for the tallest masts. It was a great day.

The Aircraft Carrier Midway is worth a visit. Most of the volunteers are current or retired navy. Could easily spend a day listening to them.

Unfortunately it's back to reality tomorrow.
