NY campgrounds

We would like to take our newly purchased 1998 Safari to state parks/govt. facilities to the 1,000 islands area in NY. passing through PA (I81). Any input on preferred places to camp would be appreciated. We'd like to leave around June 1.Thanks so much

On your way up is Robert Treman State Park. We enjoyed our stay there.

We've stayed at Watkins Glen State Park,
Seeing the Glen is a great experience,
The park has limited camp sites that will accommodate an RV so make sure your have a reservation.

Letchworth State Park is a great park if you're traveling that far west. Definitely a park to visit.

The Watkins Glen KOA is nice if you like that type of park.

Stay away from the big race weekends, everything will be booked up.

Parker Dam State Park

There is a state park in the middle of Pennsylvania that may be on your route. We've stayed at Parker Dam State Park a couple of times and enjoyed it. Large campground sites, lake, and of course the Dam on the lake that the park is named for. One feature we liked on our first visit (2009) was the bat house. Unfortunately on our last visit (2015) the bat house is vacant, all of the bats died from the white fungus disease. There was some talk of re-colonizing the bat houses in the future.

Enjoy your trip to New York - should be beautiful in June.

My wife and absolutely recommend the 1000 island KOA located south of Watertown NY. It is off rt. 81 and is on its own island out into Lake Ontario. It's not cheap but it has a load of sites with spectacular water views.
