Tom, I've had two bumps parking. The first with the drivers side door wide open as I'm pulling forward and looking out the door to line the sewer outlet on the trailer with the sewer hookup on our site. I neglect to see a leftside power box on the neighbors site and hit it with the open door.

Second bump I'm backing in a site. Patty is behind with the trusty 2 way guiding me in, our unit's President walks over and starts guiding me in as he stands by my door. I start listening to him and not Patty and as I swing a hard left on the steering wheel to align the trailer (you know how those WBCCI folks want you to line up straight), I hear Patty yell stop in the 2 way and at the same time I hear this crunch. I look to my right and realize I have swung the passenger side of the van right into the side of a large tree.

That's why I pretty much stay away from folks who already have help. I have my own way and when left to Patty and I alone, we will get backed in without problems. Everybody else just stay out of the way.

Jack

I agree. I just stand and watch, and don't say anything unless I see them about to hit something. I feel this is the best help I can give.

I've seen Rog back that 34' monster in a very tight spot at the Indiana Dunes a few years ago....most impressive.

Me, I have to nearly jackknife the trailer to squeeze it into our driveway, then back it up over 50-60ft to the back of the lot. When the dealer delivered our coach, he said, there is no way I think I can do this without hitting something, you want to do it?

My neighbors still to this day can't understand how I do it, but it's just years of towing that gets you use to it.

Backin' up

After years of parking a semi tractor-trailer, mostly backing up, if I am asked if I need help, I don't wish to offend so I just ask them to yell "Stop" if I am about to hit something. This allows a good intentioned novice the opportunity to participate. Then I get out and look and try it again if necessary.
GREAT job, Porky!!!

Tight Squeeze

I thought this was worthy of the tight fit thread.

Tunnel #2 on the needles HWY in the Black Hills. I had people watching me on both ends. lol. Not a scratch ! Theo said I had about 5 in on each side.

Notice the slight jog in the middle of that tunnel?

My family went through this very same place in 1964 in a Dodge Motorhome, (An original 1963 Dodge). The mirrors missed by "just a tick" on both sides. All of the other vehicles that were ahead of us and behind us stopped and waited to see if we made it. Some took pictures too!!
We made it...inching our way through. It was quite an experience!!
Definitely meets the tight fit criteria!!

Glad you made it too!!!

Lou
