Now I'm in a MESS

It's not a case of "IF" you've towed into a spot where ya REALLY didn't want to be, but "When" you've towed into a bad spot.

I did it last week towing our 34' thru New Orleans...It seemed the main bridge was out so a 'small' detour was in order.

This was my 2nd trip across, the first was in the dark...

If ya want, Google Earth will zoom you in on the GPS Cord's shown in the lower left of the photos.

That's scary! One time I came up against a detour and a narrow bridge with construction. To enter onto the bridge you had to zig from the approach to the lane. I knew the truck could zig but I got worried about behind me and how the Airstream would track or if it would scrape the metal barrier and I came to a halt. I had traffic stopped on both sides since it was a timed light with oncoming or outgoing traffic sharing the single lane. I walked outside and around, when a young man from Ohio on the other side facing me said, "darlin' if it's too long for you, you ought not to tote it. You got a good three inches on that side." I did it, mostly because I had to, and not because I was convinced it would be OK or that I wanted to... I would have backed up if I could have. I had terrifying thoughts of the police coming and my Airstream being wedged in there but good. I know... just pull, the trailer will give. And that was exactly what I was worried about, my silver baby.

If you would have come a few years earlier, you would have had to also dodge the houses that were pushed into the roadway when the levee broke! YES, that was a mess...

That's a tight squeeze....

Back in 88 I lived in Metairie and worked on the West Bank. Can't remember how many truck mirrors I busted crossing the Huey P every morning.

Man I sure could go for a fried oyster po' boy... Dressed if you don't mind.

I have RVed a lot in Mexico where unexpected road hazards and roadblocks are commonplace.
My procedure when one occurs is stop in the middle of the road blocking both lanes of traffic and get and with a dumb look on my face (not too hard). Someone will get will rush over and solve my problem, move the barricade, lift the electric lines with a pole ect.
I am not going to endanger my rig if some idiot ("If you can't handle that rig 'darlin' don't drive it) creates a traffic mess.
You will be amazed how fast someone shows up and clears away the mess when four or five horns are honking all at once and I am standing in the middle of the road shrugging.
People bad mouth Mex, but how different is it from New Orleans?

I fixed that 5er's brother day before yesterday... Two vents, skylight, plumbing vent, tv antenna, roof...
Yup, he said he drove under a low bridge. That bridge is not that far from where I work.
