Talking Not really "on the road..."

.. but I didn't know what forum to post this on.

I figured some of you might be interested in our adventures from last weekend, when we took our 31ft '79 Sovereign over to the island where it will live for a few years at least, on a barge which was, shall we say, not necessarily big enough for the job.

The story's quite long to tell, involves a few scary moments (one should definitely learn how to use 4 wheel drive mode and low gears before heading up gravel hills!), but I think the pictures will speak for themselves:

A sample is attached.

Surprisingly enough, as far as I can tell the worse the airstream suffered from that trip was a little dent in the rear (the big dent in the front is old).

Cheers,

--david

Wow, that is really something.
Will you be living on the island?
Or a summer home?

Fantastic! Thanks so much for putting together the slideshow, I really enjoyed seeing that. Are you going to clear your property any more, or let it go back to natural?

We'll be using the place as a weekend getaway mostly (it's 2 hours away from home). We may clear a few more trees to give us a bit of a water view, but mostly we're leaving about half of it as is, and half of it open to let some sunlight in and to make some sort of meadow to play in.

It must be such a relief to have your Airstream "in place" - what a journey! Thanks for sharing your pictures. They are just beautiful.

Thanks for the great photos. They were a welcome relief from the heat we are experiencing here in Richmond, VA.
