North! to Alaska

Page and I are starting our journey tomorrow. Our first stop will be Jackson Center Thursday night. We will get them to install a spare tire carrier under the front of the coach.

Our immediate plans are to head up through Michigan - new country for us - cross the Mackinaw Bridge and see what's to see. We are thinking about following Route 2 across WI, MN and much of ND before turning north again. We're carrying the kayaks and darned near everything else we own to boot. I should say that the kayaks are for flat water use only!

We don't have a real schedule but loosely plan to be back home mid Sept.

Your thoughts are welcome. I'll post our progress and attempt pix from time to time as well.

Homer or Bust!

Pat

Have a great trip Pat and keep in touch along the road north. Annie and I will follow in your footsteps one time soon. We've been studying The Milepost. Can't wait. Happy Trails to you both

Thumbs up Kudos to you both......

for taking a long scenic trip into unchartered territory! You gave us the same thumbs up after taking our "seeking the sun" trip from Oregon to Yosemite last January! I'm jealous......wanting any excuse to take my (new) kayak (smooth water) to a scenic lake or waterway..........Alaska would be outstanding! Sounds like our type of travel mates!
Wish we could join ya!

Pat:

That’s a nice wander.

I several times took the route to see my family in Saskatchewan.

After the bridge, it’s a long, lonely drive so stop in Escanaba for a good walk around that Great Lakes town.

Range across Iron Mountain, Iron River, Ironwood to Ashland and Duluth.

Stay there awhile before heading out to Grand Rapids, Bemidji, Grand Forks and Minot.

From there, I usually headed up to Regina, via Estevan and Weyburn.

If you stay in Big Sky Country until you reach the tiny Montana town of Malta, you can turn north to Canada, ending up in VAL MARIE!

The hot showers at the Convent are great.

Whichever way you go, take your time. Enjoy the trip.

Sergei

We went to Alaska in 2005 in our 25' Safari. It was our greatest adventure. Of all the advise we got only one was worth taking. "Go slow and you will be fine".
