Day 15: Frisco, CO to Salina, KS:

Today was a 500 mile drive. Headed east to Denver over the continental divide via I70 and the Eisenhower/Johnson tunnel. The climb over up to the tunnels was not too hard for my Tundra and I was able to maintain 55 mph to 60 mph. The decent down was a bit nerve wracking as trucks were slowed down to 25mph and trying to get over to the left lane at times was difficult due to the increased traffic. Once on the east side of Denver the traffic thinned out and slowly in my rear view mirrors the Rockies disappeared, I stayed at the Saline KOA. Not bad for a private RV park. About $30 for water/electric hook ups. I didnít take any photos once I left Frisco, CO. As I head east on I70 the wind picked up to a quartering head wind.

I did take video through my windshield of the ascent up to the Eisenhower/Johnson tunnel

Gas Stops:
Frisco, CO: 180 miles, 15 gallons pumped, 12 mpg
Burlington, CO: 233 miles, 14.7 gallons pumped, 13.4 mpg
Hays, KS: 157 miles, 14.7 gallons pumped 10.6 mpg

Thanks for sharing brings back memories. We did Bryce then Zion in June 2005 we were in a popup then. Snowed on us at Bryce one day. Did not get to hike the narrows because all the snow melt had the river to high.

We hit The Narrows at a perfect time. The Virgin River was running pretty clear too.

I have an excuse to go back. My daughter renewed her nurse contract for another 18 months in St George.

Thank you for the tour of your trip. I really enjoyed your pictures of Bryce and Zion. I was there 40 years ago, but because we were in a hurry to go to the Rally in Calif. to see Bob Hope in person, we didn't do any hiking. After seeing your pictures, I wish we had. We were in a 1963 AS. It was sold and we bought a 1987 AS. It too was sold in July this year. We never got out west again spending most of our later years in New England. So thank you again for sharing your trip with your daughter.

Thanks for that! We are planning a spring trip through a similar route (starting end ending in Fl, though). Your experiences are going to be very helpful to us. Being retired, we don't have a time constraint and might be able to squeeze in a few more sights. Even if we were not planning to visit some of the same places, the pics you posted are the next best thing to being there!

Great trip and good reading. We did a lot of the same last April and the temperatures were a lot cooler, though there was snow on the trails at Bryce. We also did Arches and Canyonland. I could definitely do the whole thing again, take more time, and hike more trails.
