Norcal?

What is/are your favorite Northern California sites? We have been going to the beach mostly and are interested in stretching our horizons.

Usually, when I go to NorCal, I boondock on private land off Hwy 50 east of Placerville. We also used to camp near Wrights Lake in that same area. We also like the redwood areas, Big Sur, etc.
Sorry not too many specifics for you.

Wrights Lake

Wrights Lake has always been our family's favorite. We started going there in the 80s. There are several nice campgrounds around there, Ice House, Union Resevoir, China Camp, Pi Pi all a few miles off of 50 north and south. Of course if you can handle the crowds in summer the west shore of Tahoe has some good camping. Off season is much better but winter can be rough there for camping.

There have been some ideas tossed around today in the planning of another potential NorCal Rally. You may get some ideas from that link.

So many places, so little time...

Camping in Northern California is great! Lots of places we really like! BTW, to me Northern California is generally North of Sacramento....

Yosemite tops our list when the rash of tourists are gone...

Lake Almanor is pretty great too!

Lots of good spots along the Redwood Coast near Humbolt... especially when the Rhodendrons are blooming!

Burney Falls is great... Hat Creek area if you like to fish...

Several places along the Scott River in Scott Valley in Siskiyou County... quiet, peaceful, forests and river...

Hwy 89 is a great route to travel and find lots of places!

Play pin the tail on the map and find the nearest campground and try it out! Most of the places we go are National Forest Campgrounds, State or Federal. Usually don't do the "commercial" campground routine, but there are some nice lakes that have regular RV spots with hookups. Lake Siskiyou near Weed is nice for that. Good fishing, and great if you have a little boat.

Enjoy Northern California!

How about South Lake Tahoe, we like Tahoe Valley Campground. Virginia City is a fun stop.

Columbia State Park, we stayed at Marble Quarry. Also close to Murphys where the Mercer Caverns are.

Yosemite, we liked Yosemite Lakes, its the only Thousand Trails park that does not require you to be a member. Lots of nice amenities.

Casa de Fruita near Gilroy. Fun stuff to do and near Bonfante Gardens. Also close enough for a Monterey trip.

Thanks!

With our current trailer, we have camped at Benbow, Dunsmir (great place but HOT in the summer; the local pizza place will actually deliver to the campsites! LOL!), Bodega Bay (Wrights Beach is great and your spots are right on the beach - dry camping through). Going next week to Cloverdale with a group of friends. Maiden voyage for our new AirStream.
