NJ to Lexington

Hi, this Jersey girl plans on a trip to Lexington KY and the surrounding area. I have two( well at least for now) questions

We plan for the first or second week of April

- would you travel the more Northen route thru Ohio or the Southern route thru WV. I have. 19' bambi and pull with a 2500 suburban. I am concerned with hills and weather.

- a campground near the horse farms. I would like to make my way to Berea, the crafts/ arts town.

We r looking to see Churchill Downs, working horse farms , beautiful rolling country side. We r celebrating our 40th Anniversary. Our first date was on the 99th running of the Derby and we were married on the. 100th running of the Derby. It would be interesting to go to the Derby in May, but too crazy and crowded, so we r going before.

Thanks for any information...very excite to make this trip. We plan for 9 days.

KY Camp

Nice place near Lexington to camp is the Kentucky horse park, very close to Keenland horse race track. Visit Bardstown, voted Americas best small town and you will also be in the heart of Bourbon country so stop by a couple of the distilleries. Lots of great state parks to camp at, such as Natural Bridge State park in the middle of the Red River gorge (wonderful hiking). Also another beautiful state park is Nolin Lake State Park, not to be confused with the Corp of Engineer Nolin Lake. PM me if you need addition info and have a safe trip.
