Niagara to New Orleans?

Me and the Wife are discussing our fall travel plans, we have to organize our vacations extremely far in advance due to our careers.

We are considering a trip to New Orleans from our home here in Niagara-on-the-Lake, this comming fall (October/November). We normally travel south in the Fall, January to June is unavailable due to work and in the summer we prefer to stay in the north and enjoy the weather.

Last year we travelled to Nashville and loved it, and we would love to see New Orleans. We have been known to travel up to 1000km in a day but prefer to take more time and make stops along the way. For Nashville we stopped somewhere in Ohio for the night, this gave us time to stop at some antique shops between Ohio and Nashville.

Experineced Travelers please provide your words of wisdom!

1) can you recomend a stop over near Columbus that will be open in October/November - preferably with something to while we're there other than look at 5th wheels and motor coaches.

2) What are the must see/do things in New Orleans.

3) What side trips can you recomend along our route, or possible better routes:
90 - Buffalo to Cleveland
71 - Cleveland to Louisville
65 - Lousiville to Birmingham
59 - Birmingham to NewOrleans

Thanks

Have you ever visited the plant in Jackson Center, OH? It's about an hour from Columbus, just off I75 (a great US highway, IMHO), and well worth the side trip.

You could sleep overnight at the Terraport for free, and get work done on your TT, shop in the Airstream Shop, and take the 2:00 PM daily tour.

Just s thought. What Airstream doesn't need something done to it...?

If you can budget 2 or3 days to do the Natchez Trace from Nashville to Natchez Mississippi. 444 mile National Park zero trafic lights, zero stop signs 45 - 50 MPH point of interest every few minutes. Two georgeous free campgrounds.

include a day in Memphis, TN stay at Tom Sawyer RV Park in West Memphis, AR get a waterfront site and watch the tugs on the river, you can park your rig at the Welcome Center on the Memphis, TN side of the Mississipppi River, at the first exit off I-40, and catch the trolly into downtown, don't miss the "ducks" at the Peabody and bar-b-que at the Blues City cafe......in New Orleans have breakfast at Brennan's, brunch (jazz brunch) at The Court of Two Sisters, dinner at too many places to list, beignets at Cafe Du Monde and spend time strolling in Jackson Square....Two Rivers is a nice RV Park in Nashville, near Opry Land and you can get a shuttle into the downtown area...time permitting you may want to check into taking the Natchez Trace which goes from Nashville, TN to Natchez, MS
