We stayed on the Canadian side and loved the gardens and landscaping almost as much as the falls.

We return to Buffalo every year, sometimes camping sometimes fly in for family visits. Stayed at all three campgrounds on Grand Island ( their are no others on the American side near the falls). KOA & Waters of Niagara are very expensive, but have many amenities & are family oriented. The third CG is a well kept secret, it's a no frills, no pool, no noise beautiful little place stuck behind a motel 10 minutes from the falls. It has about 27 sites, all back in with full hook up's some have cable TV, it's called Cinderella Motel & Campground. It's half the price of the other two & usually space is available as families choose one of the other two for the pool etc. if looking for just a relaxing place while visiting NFalls that's it.

It can be a PITA getting across the Rainbow Bridge during high traffic times, even with a basic load, do the google to get the wait times if you decide to cross the Border. The Customs people are used to tourists and their 'loaded' vehicles, its usually traffic that causes the 2hr wait times.

If you want the 'back to Nature' experience of the Falls, do explore Goat Island Park. Quite a few just pass it right by....their loss.

You can walk across the border from Niagara Falls NY to the Canadian side quick easy not a problem and then talk the walk up to the horseshoe falls a couple of km. wear walking shoes and get some fresh air, it's worth the walk to see the falls from Canada.
