Back "in the day" a long time ago, when I was flying fabric covered airplanes out of little grass strip country airports, one of the local FBOs was very emphatic about not smoking around his gas pumps.
(In those days I think a lot of FBOs had been pilots in WW II or Korea, had seen life and death up close and personal, and were not inclined toward subtlety. I know my flight instructor was like that, anyway. . .)
Anyway, in addition to a big
CO2 fire extinguisher, he kept a pressurized water can extinguisher next to the pumps. And if he saw anybody with a lit cigarette there. . . he put it out
with that extinguisher. Next time folks generally obeyed the sign.
