New York

We are leaving beautiful, warm, Sarasota in about three weeks to make a trip to NYC to take our daughter her car and help her get moved home to Sarasota. She lives in Manhattan.

We have not decided whether to take our Airstream or leave it here. It would be nice to have it on the way up, as we plan on a few sight-seeing stops in South Carolina, Charleston, Etc.

However, does anyone know of anyplace we could leave camper outside NYC and out of the worst of congestion/traffic, but within an hour or so by train, etc? We will have to take our TV at least once to her apartment on 17th to get some of her stuff to bring home.

Also, recommendations on SC parks would be welcome.

James Island is a county park just outside Charleston, less than 5 miles.

If you are coming north before the 15th of March you may have to consider winterizing.

I am in Princeton NJ 1/2 mile from the main line, 1 hour to NY, and have driveway space for your rig.

Send me a PM if interested.

It will cost you about $20.00 in tolls coming north and $27.00 going south for the trailer to NJ. Going into NY by car you will have to leave your first born with no guarantee of getting it back.

Thanks so much! Both of you are too generous to offer parking. However, we have our 32' this time, and would hate to clutter up your property. We were thinking more along the lines of an RV park where we could hook up to 30 amp. This unit has electric heat and because of the chance of freezing, we need to hook up.

Gosh, it's so nice of you to offer courtesy parking! But I think we need to find parks because of our (not cheap!) electric heating system.

We were wondering about toll fees for the rig, too. Thanks for the info! We know this is going to be a pricey trip.

This is a close as you can get to NY
Liberty Harbor Marina and RV Park

The tolls quoted assume you will come up 95 to 295 around Richmond, then up 301 to 50 across the bridge at Annapolis then up 301 and 896 to 95 in Del. Across the Delaware Memorial bridge and up 295 to Princeton. If you go to Jersey City you will have to add somewhere around $20.00 each way.

You would still use the route above and go off 295 to 195 and across to the NJ Turnpike and up to Jersey City.

I am 35 miles due west of NYC in Denville, NJ. Beyond me about 8 miles is Mahon Dickerson county Park with paved pads, dump and open all year. You can take Lakeland Bus direct to city from local Mall or u can take direct train, from several places. Driving is rt 80 to rt 3 to tunnel, rt 80 and rt 3 no tolls. My daughter lives 92nd. And 1st. Liberty open all year, but there is a night club on the grounds. Not sure if night club is open this time of year. PM me if u need more info.

Very interesting. A bit rough, but it's right across the river from Lower Manhattan.

Is there a train station or ferry near Liberty RV? Was there another RV Park on that side? We looked at the site but couldn't tell.

Yes there are ferries, call to check schedule. Their website should tell you everything. I think they can get pretty busy since it is the closest to the city.

LawChick,
Like HowieE said, Liberty Marina & RV is your best bet. Below is the extract that I lifted from their website. Be ready for a lot of salt on the roads, air and water at this time of the year ( corrosion is at it's peak)
There are buses, ferries and trains btw NJ & NYC till midnight. Enjoy NYC as much as you can regardless of the slushy weather.
"Rates: Libert Marina & RV

Rates and Reservations available upon request. The Liberty Harbor RV Park is proud to offer its excellent facilities for just $75.00 per night (plus tax). And now when you stay with us for 6 consecutive nights, you get the 7th night free! Make your reservation now to take advantage of this amazing deal!
Deposit for reservation: a 50% non refundable deposit is required at the time of making any reservation. Deposits are not transferable.

Please note that spaces are 45’ long. If your car does not fit in the provided space with the trailer or RV there will be an additional charge. Extra vehicles and cars are an additional $20 each. Additionally, the per night fee includes up to six guests. Each guest over and above the six included in the party will be charged a $10 per night per person."

It's not like a camp in the country

It's more like a parking lot in the city. Well, it IS a parking lot in the city.

Looks like a fast ferry ride to Manhattan though. Or if you want to drive your car, it shouldn't be too tough.

Of course, cabbing it is much more practical in the City...

You can see the label on this image if you don't see the trailers. Click on the picture to see it larger.
