Another goodun is Angel Peak so of Bloomfield (photo). 7 mi in on sometimes washboard, but it is on a mesatop overlooking a great canyon. Also closeup views of the gas wells. Nice campsites, never even half full, no hookups, and if I remember right, free.

Ditto on Shiprock during the fair. Also Farmington and Gallup for the same reason
Second that for Angel Peak! Another small gem of a CG with huge views of the badlands, very good free sites, and privacy. The 6 mile road is not bad after the first mile off of 550. Great boondocking on Oct 3rd.

Stayed last night at the Mountain Road RV park in Tucumcari, NM. We are set up at the Alpen Rose RV park in Durango, Co. Weather is perfect.

Snow forecast for the san juans last night and possibly today. Rained in the four corners all night. Most of the rural roads are impassable. Hope you got to durango ok. You might even see the fall colors before the leaves fall off.

Another nice place to camp in National Forest sites is Williams Creek Reservoir, north of Pagosa Springs. This is at 8,242' elevation, so maybe not so great if wintry weather is predicted.

We are in Durango. Plan to leave in the morning headed to Albuquerque. It has rained almost everyday and the weather is calling for snow Friday. Getting out of here before snowfall.

Points South of Albuquerque to Visit

Not sure where you plan to go from Abq, but you will enjoy (1) Valley of Fire (a National Monument Campground) just outside Carrizoso, NM and/or (2) Oliver Lee Memorial State Park just south of Alamogordo.
