Thanks for the reply and the photo. I am sure that I can do the stripe now. Like the suburban. Not sure yet what I want to put on the tire cover . Did you need to replace the narrow rubber insert next to the stripe. Mine needs new insert. Thanks again

Klattu,
If someone wanted to run the same route, but take their time and 'smell the roses', how long would you recommend?

Ouija

Man...you must be reading my mind!

I am looking back thinking the same thing,
Should have stayed longer.

So my answer without much detail...
3 weeks.
Based on staying more than one day/night at a few places.

Perhaps several of us are coming down with wanderlust? I'm trying to squeeze a few weeks in January or February and in the words of Jimmy Buffett - "I gotta go where it's warm". A good start could include a few days in Big Bend, then on to New Mexico.

Your great post just fanned the fires

Stay on Target

Best thing we did was to limit ourselves to New Mexico.
Any kind of limit really helps keep things in check.
So much temptation to go deeper into Utah, Arizona and Colorado.
No No No,were touring this state only!

Northern Arizona and Utah could be one trip, but no more, until we are full timing.

Too much out there to ever really be done.

An idea...
Thanksgiving is fantastic at the Grand Canyon

Heres another great stripe...
Rubber insert was OK.
Not 100% sure is really rubber.

Carlsbad Caverns Camping

A tip for vistors to Carlsbad Caverns...

The entrance to the park is a good 20+ miles from the city of Carlsbad.
Then another 5+ to parking lot.
We took a chance and headed to park to see if anything was available, Plus we wanted to see the bats at sunset, then tour caves the next morning.
There is a White's Campground just outside of park with full hook-ups for $22.
And 3 motels with pools that you can use if your camping.
Was perfect location for us.

Get the audio guide if your self touring, one unit is good for two people.
If you do a Ranger Guide, you get to see more, and they turn out the lights.

All trails are down hill, or level and very easy, at end you get to ride the elevator back up.

Lunch is available at the bottom, is not what it used to be.
More like what you would find at a 7/11...no more box lunches.

Great place to bring the kids!

Bats head south to Mexico in November, return early spring.
They fly out each day about 1 hour before sunset, so get there early.

White's Campground...far right is for big rigs.

Other Destinations in NM

We went to Bandelier National Monument while we were there a couple of weeks ago. It was very interesting as well. Not that far from ABQ. There is also a Los Alamos museum that is supposed to be very good although we didn't tour it this time.s

We went to the UFO museum in Roswell. We thought that was great if you like that sort of thing. We also traveled Route 70. It is a nice road for towing to get from A to B. It is very lightly traveled but a great road and mostly 4 lane. (Make sure you fill up with gas and supplies while in town).

Klattu,

Most awesome pics and journey - thanks for sharing. I can attest to the size of those wind generators - they are enormous.

And I can attest to New Mexico being a gorgeous place - would head back in two seconds if we had the time again.
