New Lucy Hits The Open Road

Well, we're at it again. Fred, Ethel, and New Lucy headed out from Santa Rosa Beach, Florida this morning. That's right, we actually were wheels up before the crack of noon. This time we are making the trip with the New Lucy. Last October we traded Lucy in on a brand new 2015 Airstream. This is our first big trip in the new Lucy. We have spent about 60 nights in her already, mostly pretty near to home. This is New Lucy's first cross country excursion.

We plan to make our way to Maine over the next week or so. Today we headed north through the Alabama countryside. We did have to make an unscheduled stop at Jackson Chevrolet in Andalusia, Alabama. Fred the truck had a slight computer glitch, and we spent about two hours getting it straightened out.

We continued north into the evening. As darkness started to set in, we found a nice little campground in Hartselle, Alabama, and got settled in for the night. We covered about 360 miles today. We did get a few pictures along the way.

Can't wait for the rest of the story. On a side note did you need a hitch extender to hook up the AS behind the truck camper? Peace, jim

We do not use a hitch extender on our truck as the truck camper doesn't extend past the truck bumper. Since we use a Hensley, there is enough clearance to fully open the camper door.

On the road again

Brian,
Look forward to hearing and seeing you latest adventure.
Amy and I will be headed down your way (SRB), lots this Summer.
We found a lot after all.
It's just down the street from our current home and 1 minute from the beach....and no HOA!
Thanks for having us into your home and showing us all your very cool toys.
Safe travels.

Looks awesome Brian. Some gently rolling slopes, and lots of quiet roads. It doesn't get any better. Safe travels to both of you, and keep the pictures coming.
Kind regards,
Gavin

Moosetags is on the loose! We enjoy your travel threads, well done. We're in our Airstream too, just a short trip to Denver to visit our sons and then back to Minnesota. We wanted to explore the southeast, but it will have to wait until next time. I had strong headwinds driving out here, really cost extra fuel consumption. I'm glad diesel is 2.70 or less now as I used quite a bit more of it pushing in those winds.

I can't wait to hear about your Jackson Center visit.

Lucy had a good day on the road making her way from northern Alabama, through Tennessee, and on to Kentucky. We got a fairly early start and stayed with I-65, covering about 220 miles today.

We made a stop in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and had lunch with some dear friends who live there. After lunch, we continued a short distance and decided to stop early so we could visit Mammoth Cave National Park. We got Lucy a campsite at Singing Hills RV Park in Cave City, Kentucky. We visited the Park late in the day and enjoyed our fairly short visit. As neither of us are cave people, seeing the entrance to Mammoth Cave and going into it a hundred feet or so was sufficient. and all of the caving we needed to do.

We got back to Lucy after dark as we made a run over to Wal-Mart Glasgow. We got settled into Lucy right as it began to rain. We are going to wait until the morning to decide if we want to spend another night here to tour the area, or move on.

Thx for taking us on your next trip. Enjoyed the last one. We like your short narrating style and the photos. We also like so snap pics of some town architecture, old movie houses, churches and trees. Safe travels.

Weeeeee! Off we go….

We stayed in one of those cabins some years ago in post 17—I think it was the last one on the right, the longest walk from our SUV. When we checked out each one of us paid for the 2 nights not having worked that out between us. Took a while and I had to have the Park sup't intervene with the concessionaire, but we got our extra money back.

When we were in Cave City, we saw a wigwam motel there. We preferred to stay in the Park though.

We enjoyed two different trips through the caves—we are cave people. You find the mooses, we'll do the caves. JC and Maine just doesn't seem like a "cross country excursion". I think of cross country as east—west, not north—south. Now you've got me thinking in a new way. I feel like I've been turned sideways.

If cross country includes out west after Maine, let us know if you're in the neighborhood.

Cross-country can also be from the far northwest corner to the far southeast corner and back, or vice-versa. We recently did the first. Maybe Moosetags can do the latter once they get to Maine.

We love Maine, have a wonderful trip. Last time we were there we ate so much lobster and blueberry pie... Well, it might be time to do that again sometime soon.
